Now Playing Week 11 - @spaceballoon's Top 5 Tracks

Below are the 5 songs I've selected for the @Nowplaying-music Week 11 Playlist:

The Enchanted Lake - Anatoly Lyadov
This piece is a stunning representation of the best that early 20th century impression can offer. It is based off of a fairy tale and immediately you feel as though you are transported to magical world with fairies and water sprites. The textures weave together breathtaking imagery of a foggy misty lake full of secrets that are slowly revealed as the piece unravels. I believe it was this style of music that inspired much of the music you hear featured in the early Disney movies -- so I relate to it on a very deep level.

Rockit - Herbie Hancock
This was the first song to ever reach the Top 10 of the pop charts to feature all sampled tracks and record scratching. In 1983, this "technology" was exclusively used in the underground and was not very well known to the general public. Leave it to Herbie Hancock (who if you don't know, is arguably THE world's greatest living legend of the jazz era) to introduce the world to this new sonic landscape just as he did in the early 70's with this Epic masterpiece "Headhunters".

Strings of Light - Yussef Kamaal
The album"Black Focus" is a collaboration between keyboardist Kamaal Williams and Yussef Dayes. This album immediately struck my ears as some of the freshest shit I've heard to come out of jazz in a long time. The drums drive the rhythm as the keyboard plays with multi-layered textures and harmonies. I recently posted a tribute to this track on dsound here: https://steemit.com/dsound/@spaceballoon/20180310t184839931z-strings-for-light-tribute-to-yusef-kamaal-draft-1-instrumental

King's Dead - Kendrick Lamar, Future, James Blake, Jay Rock
At this time, Kendrick Lamar is on a European tour with James Blake, so I thought it would be fitting to include a track they just released together with Future. I'm a diehard fan of James Blake but am having a hard time hearing what his role in the production was other than a 5 second sample in the middle. Regardless, this is an extremely entertaining track that bumps super hard.

Sketches of Brunswick East I - King Gizzard and the Wizard Lizard, Mild High Club
A super chill, psychedelic mix of new and old sounds. Released in 2017, the album Sketches of Brunswick East I is a great collaboration album between two great bands in the modern psychedelic scene. This is just a short closer that actually serves as the introduction to the album which is highly worth a listen.
