The previous balance published by the Mozambican Institute for Emergency Situations Management (INGC) had reported five deaths in the province of Cabo Delgado, on the Tanzanian border.

Cyclone Kenneth arrived on the coast of this province on Thursday with a wind of up to 300 km / h and heavy rains, just six weeks after the devastating one thousand kilometers further south of cyclone Idai.

Idai, which hit Mozambique in March, left a thousand dead in the center of the country and in neighboring Zimbabwe and hundreds of thousands of homeless people.

After the passage of Kenneth, the city of Pemba, capital of the province of Cabo Delgado, and its surroundings were victims on Monday unes of important floods caused by the resistance linked to the cyclone.

Several neighborhoods of the city, which has 400,000 inhabitants, were under water and many routes were cut, AFP journalists noted.

These floods complicate the distribution of emergency aid, according to the World Food Program (WFP), which is crucial given that more than 30,000 hectares of crops were destroyed in the region due to the flood.
