Work hard and smart
Whatsoever Your Hands Find to Do....!
I was at our car wash, just chilling like I always do. But then I realised, the number of cars coming to wash was increasing. There was however only one of our guys who was working as the others were still attending church programs, being a sunday. The guy who was working is SDA so he gets his off on Saturday. Seeing that traffic was increasing, I realised, if we provide a bad service, it wont be the one washing who will be blamed, but we may lose customers as the whole busines. So I decided to help. I rolled by boss sleeves and started washing cars. Unknown to me, the very first car I was washing belongs to a former student of mine. I taught him while he was in college and now he has a job. When he found me cleaning his car, he couldn't believe it. Especially that he had no idea I am found at that car wash. This is someone who gives me respect as his lecturer, and even says to his friend, "everything I know, I learnt from this man." Now here I am cleaning his car and looking so simple in my shorts and rolled up top. Sir, how come you are washing my car... Before I could answer, the other guy answered for me in his funny language, "aah, mamotoka yapaka so ba bossele baniyanvya ko che" (the cars are too many so the boss is just helping me).
This my former student then reminded me of a lesson I shared in class when he was a student. He said, "sir, do you remember when you told us, you may complete school and not immediately find a job in your field of study... In the interim, just do whatever you can do, when money comes, it is not written that this came from cleaning the toilets. It can still be spent on anything." Very right. A lot of people are broke, not because there is no money out there, no, but because they are not ready to get their hands dirty. I know broke guys who are broke because they want a job with a corner office and aircone. I know broke divas who are not ready to remove their nail extensions to work.. They would rather be broke with long fake nails. As I always say, wealth may be a far off, but being broke must also not be an option. There is dignity in work. No matter what type of work, as long as you are not begging, people will respect you for working.
Whatsoever your hands find to do, do it with your might? Also. Eccl 11: 6 says "In the morning sow your seed, and at evening do not let your hand be idle: For you do not know which of the two will be successful, or whether both alike will turn out well." Meaning, when you are done with your main job, don't sit down like munalemela kale. No. Find something else to do. Something that can bring you extra income. You never know, your part time job may even start bringing your full time income. I can give an example of myself. My main money source is training and speaking. However, there are times it is dry and no one is hiring me to speak or train, what do I do? I resort to writing. You guys have stopped hiring me, whats wrong, do I need to advertise myself again? We do Team Building, Entreprenuership Training and Strategic planning, in short, anything that has to do with organisational development, call us, you wont be disappointed. I digressed, but am waiting for your call. My point however is, in the past month for instance, I have made more money from writing than I have from speaking. Why? In the evening (when the main career is sleeping) do not let your hands be idle. You can't sit and complain about "kulibe business, olo, business ili slow" as if that will pay the bills. No no no. Stretch the place of thy tent. When one is not working, do something else. Whatever it is, as long as you are not stealing to buy fire trucks. Otherwise, if you don't wanna work, it's ok for you to be broke. He who does not work should not eat.
