I think that is the way of it with people. One either wants to better herself or hates those who want to better themselves. As a kid we can be pulled in two directions ...each side being equally prejudiced. Lucky are those who feel comfortable in their own skin and foster comfort in others. I think she was motivated to better herself (and us) but went about it the wrong way. She did what she did with the tools she had at the time. They weren't the best tools.
