Speak Peace to Nigeria!

I know its bad, I know its hard, Nigeria does a number on us that makes it hard to see any good in it.

The corruption, the rot, the horrid leaders, the moribund institutions make for an unbearable burden. Most other countries would have definitely split up by now!

But while Nigeria may be deeply flawed, Nigeria is ours and while we may feel helpless to change Her all by ourselves, we can speak peace to Her.

The Bible says in Proverbs 18:21 (MSG)
"Words kill, words give life; they’re either poison or fruit—you choose."

We can choose to speak good to Nigeria! We can choose to say like the Psalmist " Peace be unto You Nigeria, may they prosper that love You."

We can choose to say things will get better, we can bless Nigeria, we can shed the hackneyed jokes and the seemingly "ageless" Facebook reposts that achieve nothing except divide and weaken us! And we can stop making crooks and charlatans into heroes!

We can change our attitudes too. We can stop being so parochial and purposely naive (forgive me). We can stop with the stereotypes and tribalism!

We can be better at our jobs, we can do better at school and not give up cos its the 'Nigerian system.' (whatever does that mean btw?)

We can stop with the Buhari-shaming. Seriously, that is getting old and focus on getting some of our light out in our immediate neighbourhood.

We can be like Jesus, we can love these beautiful battered ruins of a country back to life. Yes we can!

And you know what else, we can pray. When Nigeria hurts you the most, go report Her to that Someone who could actually do something about it!

Nigeria will be great cos you are great! Yes we will! I just know it!
