5 MISTAKES UNIVERSITY STUDENTS MAKE IN NIGERIA

in #nigeria6 years ago

As a student, i believed so many things which weren't really proven but just because they were popular beliefs among other students. But now i am done with college, my eyes are more open and i see things clearer and sometimes i wish i knew these things earlier when i was still starting my college journey. Thats why i want to make this post, perhaps somebody will learn and not make the same mistakes.

5 MISTAKES UNIVERSITY STUDENTS MAKE IN NIGERIA

(1) LECTURERS DON'T READ ASSIGNMENTS

The reason why students think lecturers don't assignments is because there are lots of students in a class and when they all submit their assignments, it piles up and then the lectures won't have time to read them and thats why we sometimes write jargon and submit. Its a big lie. Lecturers might not have time to go through your assignments word by word but they know exactly what they are looking for in every assignment they give and where to find it. If they don't find it, its a fail for you.

(2) FIRST CLASS IS IMPOSSIBLE

I don't know why some students take pleasure in convincing other students that making first class is impossible. In fact they go to the extent of spreading rumors that the lectures in their own department don't want their students to get first class because student that gets first class comes back as lecturers and challenge the older lectures. What crap! If you get first class, isn't your department and lecturers that will take the honor too?

(3) YOU CAN'T WRITE YOUR PROJECT

This is another lie students spread. They hype project writing so much that even before you reach final year, you are already dying of fear. If you are a first year or second year student reading this, believe me you can write your project on your own because i wrote mine on my own and i got an A. First, you must get a mentor (someone you can even ask stupid questions about your project). Secondly always start your project on time and give yourself breaks. Thirdly you must try to impress you supervisor with your efforts.

(4) DARING YOUR LECTURERS

Let me explain what i meant here because i can't fit it into a title. What i mean is, in Nigeria, our lecturers are fond of forcing students to buy textbooks and handouts. Even in UNN where it has been banned, some lecturer still secretly ask students to buy their textbooks and they always take the names and reg numbers of those that buy the book. Hmm, please when a lecturer makes it compulsory for students to buy his textbooks, buy o and write your name.

(5) MAKING YOURSELF VULNERABLE

Students often make themselves vulnerable by not doing the right thing at the right time. They say there is an online registration going on and you say its nothing. Finally, when its late, you will start begging and that is the chance for people in charge to extort money from you because you are now desperate. When a lecturer say do something and you don't do, later you go to his office and start begging and that is the chance for him to demand something from you as a lady.

Of course there are some other things i can add but as you may already know, i like leaving things at 5. As usual, please this is my personal opinion and i am open to corrections and new infomation. Feel free to share your own opinion in the comment section.
