3 Steps to Being a Finisher

in #nigeria7 years ago

We all set goals. We are so good at listing all the things we wish to achieve at the end of the day, week, month and year but not a lot of us actually succeed in achieving those goals. The following are three ways to make sure you achieve your goals.

START SMALL
The common reason people fail to achieve their goal is that they set themselves up for failure by trying to start with an unmanageable task. They pave the path to definite failure even before they start on their task. If you examine this logically, a person does not complete a marathon by sprinting all the way. They have to start with a gentle jog and only start to sprint when they reach the finish line. If you intend to finish a huge task, break that tasks into small tasks. Smaller tasks give you an achievable goal which you can then roll into your larger goal.

PLAY TO YOUR STRENGTH AND DELEGATE THE REST
You have to recognise that you are not a superhero. You are a normal human being who has many strengths as well as many weaknesses. To be a finisher, you should identify your strengths. You should also identify and accept your weaknesses. After you have done this, go ahead and focus on those tasks that play on your strengths and delegate the task that highlight your weaknesses.

IF YOU FAIL, RESTART.
While embarking on your journey, do not kid yourself into thinking that you will always be successful. Make room for failure because failure is not always a bad thing. By doing this you have prepared yourself for the bad as well as the good. If failure eventually shows its ugly head, do not be one of those people who give up or lose interest when things start to go downhill, instead regroup, brush the dirt off your shoulders and start all over again. I love this quote that says “Keep starting no matter what obstacles or challenges get in your way”

Hmmmm, nice post from @osbertirabor. It’s a beautiful Sunday morning here in Nigeria. I just woke up to read this post. What a good way to start a new week. I must confess I am a victim of starting task and don’t complete it. Reading your post is very helpful and I love the way you ended the post “Keep starting no matter what obstacles or challenges get in your way”. There is a song by Aaliyah called try again. My favorite part of the song is “If at first you don’t succeed, dust yourself off, and try again, you can dust it off and try again”.

Nice one @osberirabor, we are indeed very good at setting goals. We procrastinate so much because we have taken up such difficult tasks. I like how concise and simple to understand you steps are. Keep it up.
