Awake Nigerian Youth!!!
"More than 60 per cent of the population is below 30, a lot of them haven’t been to school and they are claiming that Nigeria is an oil producing country, therefore, they should sit and do nothing, and get housing, healthcare, education free,”....
Like seriously? This is quoting the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria President Muhammadu Buhari.
This octogenarian has forgotten that it was the same youth who put him in office to protect their interests.
It's laughable to reason along the lines of Mr. President when nothing has been done in his administration to promote education or even enhance healthcare.
Nigerian tertiary institutions churn our hundreds of thousands young fresh graduates annually who end up unemployed or under-employed. The civil service is not even ready to take them in. It's ironic that the average age of the civil servants in our ministries and departments is 40years. Directors and assistants are close to 60years of age. And young vibrant minds are left to struggle for jobs in the private sector which can only take few people at a time. Thus what do we have.. middle aged and older people who don't have a good idea of modern technology or working techniques running the affairs of government offices. Truancy, idleness and indiscipne is the order of the day.
The enterprising Youth go into small and medium scale enterprises which more often than not lack any form of government support. Infact in some cases it is the government who discourage the youth from carrying out legitimate businesses. For instance in the Federal Capital Territory (Abuja), it is coming to see educated able bodied young men selling wares on the streets as they cannot afford to rent shops in malls or plazas. The sound called environmental task force squad chase these young men off the streets, seize their wares and embarrass them without any other alternative means of livelihood.
With due respect Mr. President how many times have the Academic and Non Academic unions of out institutions gone on strike based on the desire to see government give more attention to educational infrastructure. How many public schools which are affordable to the public are as equipped as the private schools the government officials send their children to??
In Nigeria the public school system is an eye sore especially in Northern Nigeria where the president himself comes from. Areas in the north east is even worse as the government never provided enough security to encourage children to go to school. Thanks to UNICEF and other well meaning NGOS who do the job for the government.
Regarding the healthcare system, even our darling Mr. President robs the country of her resources with his numerous medical cacations. Why not invite your doctor's to Nigeria so that our own doctors can understand the nature of his disease.
Doctors in Nigeria just embarked on strike owing to unpaid benefits. Nigeria has a katege number of healthcare personnel working in diaspora. If the government had invested in healthcare system who wouldn't be proud to work in our public hospitals or have faith that going there would be hopeful.
The Nigerian Youth is not lazy all they need is an enabling environment to express their ideas
From the creative crafts and agricultural enterprise of the northern youth to the new generation tech gurus and CEOs in the south where are the lazy youth I'd not for the thugs the political class employ for their own selfish reasons.
I believe my president needs a reorientation of his mindset after all his highest qualification to office is a mere high school certificate.
I am a Nigerian Youth. I am educated and I am not lazy.
GOD BLESS NIGERIA
Great job on writing this kind of a post.
@melip thanks alot. It is so sad that the president of a nation would deride his nations youth in an international forum. He handpicked his minister for youth and sports who stands for everything he just said. The fact is that Nigeria has a large population of enterprising young men and women who only need an enabling environment to showcase their abilities.
