The Fallen Nation: Can it be rebuilt?
It's high time we start
To face reality of our nation
A true and sincere reality
A reality of where we are
This world is more
Than just fantasy,
Fun, or dream.
We eat,drink,and dress
Luxuriously
And even waste
Without thinking of the
Poor, marginalized,homeless
And the destitute.
Who need our help"
It's even shocking that
Most of us wants more
Than we really need
This whole nation
In which I live
Is in misery
Mostly because
Of the poverty
We experience.
Whenever on tv
They call our nation names;
I cover my face
Because of shame
I can't stand it
They even reject us visa
Not trusting us
That am even afraid to apply
The masses are always
Involved in a struggle;
And a fight for their right
They want good life.
Free access to the basic amenities
But our leaders protests
That all they bring is trouble
Does it actually mean
That pursuing the
Good life is a crime?
Is there no need to look into
The future with hope?
Where they can be recognized
And loved?
Our school boys have
Resorted to becoming alcoholics;
Drug addict
Mostly to make them
Strong workaholics
And in the end they
Get arrested, locked
In prison, and some
Even get killed
As for our ladies
They've taken up prostitution
As if they are ignorant
Of its implication.
In the bid they are used for rituals
They abort and loose their wombs
Some even die in the process.
They contact sexually transmitted diseases
Such as HIV/AIDS,
Hepatitis B & C, genital herpes,
Gonoreah, syphilis, chlamydia
And so on.
And when they realize their mistakes,
The regret the present
And future
Because of the past.
They think of
Rewinding the clock.
To undo what they have done wrong
To do the right they didn't do
Through their fault
To choose a better way of life
But the worst part of it is
The inefficiency of our leaders
As most of them are but a bunch of cheats
Pledges and promises
Of good road, free health care,
Regular payments of salary
And pension.
Good electricity, water,
Before elections
Regret and dismay afterwards
It was a bad selection
After our long stay under the sun and rain
To cast our votes
Though sometimes we sell our votes
For a cup of rice
Or a cup of garri
And sometimes for 200naira
I wonder when nigeria
Will ever be right
As it keeps on diminishing
Right before our very sight
Alive full of wisdom for the right
My great country Nigeria
I just wish we could keep aside
Greed and make it a better place to be;
Where everybody can live comfortably
But that would be quite impossible
As you can see.
We could all work together
In unity, harmony and the fear of God
But they,'d refuse
I might as well keep quiet for
I've no right to choose
But I can't
For the love of my people
The one thing people should
Be clear with is this
That we're not living forever,
And when we die
We take nothing with us
We leave everything behind.
And go into our
Six feets room alone.
All we need to do is to
Learn to get together
Not shifting blames
Work in harmony
Carrying out our responsibilities
To make Nigerian
A better place
I will do my part
What about you?
