THE ROUNDS AFTER 4PM

There used to be overloads of activities as soon as the day breaks till when darkness will take over and in some occasions as the weather will give it, moon comes at some nights to maintain a clear sky and interesting views of the environment.

In the environment we have found ourselves, what defines hard work, commitment, determination and focus is an extreme length of working hours. A father, who is a businessman sees reasons to set out for work as early as 6am to catch up his fortune of the day with the belief that as early as you resume, as fast and early you start to cash your money and by so doing, ascertains that your customers will not step an inch ahead your business point. How true is it?

On official grounds; various enterprises, companies, firms, factories and set ups do have their known, recognised and fixed periods of work.

Some will have it that their workers must resume to work as early as 7am in the morning and some will stipulate 8am. I believe this guiding rests on the nature and mode of the work/business in question.

As it is, most generally, they all set free their workers when the clock clicks 4pm.

What are the activities below that hour of the day?

In our various universities and other higher institutions of learning, there is not used to be closing hours for the academic staffs and of course there is, I mean that lecturers fix lectures at hours they feel it is comfortable aside the regulations that comes from the school board or directorate in charge of that assignment.

They may ask students to assemble at 6pm or thereabout providing that teaching-learning will be efficiently carried out then. But in most cases, lecturers do not like the activities after 4pm because of the engagements it entails which we are all compulsorily part of.

Non-academic staffs close for the day at 4pm. Some would not even wait till it is time(negligence of duty).

That is how it operates in almost all the "office works". In banks, they will mandate transactions to end by 4pm which frankly states they have closed for the day. On many occasions, their workers might be busy with balancing of account and other necessities but they have closed at 4pm.

In companies, factories and other official establishments, they close at this same hour except on rare occasions.

What am I driving at?

The activities and engagements that do occur after the close of a working day is usually the most hectic, time consuming, tedious, engaging, serious and most sensitive of the day.

You will agree with me that as a mother who closes by 4pm at work must ensure her home is in order, she may need to pick up her ward(s) at school if there is no other special provision for that. She may need to quickly branch at the market if need arises, she may need to check on someone as the case may be, she may have to branch somewhere, probably wait for her husband or someone to pick her up or drive home herself and all sorts.

As a man, married or otherwise, at the close by 4pm. Many other activities take over. If it is ordinary finding way home, it is an headache at that hour.And he may need to pick up his wife too at work, pick up his ward(s) from school, probably see a friend, meet someone, have a date as the case may be.

At these same hours, marketers begin to have more sales, businessmen and women start to have more approaches and hawkers tend to witness more sales.

In respects, the streets become jam-packed. Traffic congestion is everywhere which imposes more tensions.

Tensions to get home early enough to do some other things needed to be attended to. Tensions and hurry to scale through and above those streets' huddles and see to personal owns.

Agreeably, it is the activities after 4pm that witness the most stressful time of the day. Workers resuming home, marketers after the days' work will struggle to get home likewise the business men and women.

A non-utilised rounds after 4pm do cause havoc and numerous imbalances.

It affects the children who could not get home early, do their assignments, study, rest and sleep.

It affects the parents who could not resume home early to see to their wards and their personal lives.

When the hours after 4pm is not effectively studied, managed and utilised, it kills us in advancement and progress to think of other things.

You will understand and agree with me that we are in a community that demands that all things must be done without leftover, in retrospect, it mandates that human engagements and activities must be in conformity with time duration and very assuring, wiping away all caches.
