YOUR LANGUAGE, CULTURE YOUR IDENTITY

Language is the method of human communication, either spoken or written, consisting of the use of
words in a structured and conventional way.
It is a system of communication used by a
particular country or community.

Culture is the ideas, customs, and social behaviour of a particular people or society.
It's the social behaviour and norms found in human societies.

Language is a natural gift from God. It's originated from the garden of Eden when God told Adam to identify all the creatures in accordance with their nomenclatures. Language then and there became the medium of communication.

Afterward, God split the differences of man into multifarious forms of languages during the construction of Tower of Babel with reason known only by God. Since then, we have different languages, dialects and cultures across the world.

All the languages serve the same purposes which is chiefly medium of communication. Although there are are other ways by which communication could take place, it is language that distinguishes human beings from animals.

Therefore, no language is inferior neither there is any language that is superior to others. It is worthy to note that every language possesses the same features.

Am not a a certified linguist, but it is vital that I share this information to you in order to eliminate the sentiment of looking down on some languages mostly your mother tongue as only mediocre.
Every language including your mother tongue passes through the core levels of linguistics, possesses all the characteristics of human language which is transmitted culturally.

Moreover, it is your language and culture that speak for you; they are your identity. It is your language that grips your culture. It's your language that defines you. It's your language that tells the world who you are. It is your language that determines your root. Thus, it is momentous that you prevent your language from extinction. The death of your language is the death of your culture, your root and your identity.

Consequently, culture according to anthropologist is any knowledge passed from one generation to the next. Now, this simply means that when your language and culture is no longer in existence, it simply indicates the extinction of your generation.

Therefore, it is pertinent to speak your mother tongue where ever you may find yourself, be proud of it, be proud of your root, declare it to everyone who is interested in learning it.
Learn and speak other languages of your choice but don't neglect your mother tongue cause it is your identity and a natural gifts from God.

As for me @etimbukndem, I am an Ibibio man from Akwa Ibom State of Nigeria. I'm always proud of my culture and my language. I speak and write Ibibio which is my language very well.
