Electrical Power Management: Data logging
My Company carried out an energy audit for a residential housing complex consisting of 5 duplex-housing units in Abuja. The housing complexes electricity is supplied by six hours from Abuja electricity and by using three diesel-generators (200 kVA, 180 kVA, 80 kVA). The goal of the facility management was to check the accuracy of the utility meter as well as to get recommendations how to reduce diesel consumption.
My engineers installed professional measurement equipment: a Multi-channel three-phase smart energy meter with data logger to capture the utility meter as well as the generator meters. Measurement time was 10 days. Monthly energy consumption was found to be 20,000 kWh. Average load was measured at 30 kVA and peak load at 80 kVA. The measurements proved that the utility meter was working correctly. We also discovered that the generator set is oversized and therefore consumes much more diesel than actually needed. We recommended downsizing the 200 kVA generator to 100 kVA. This will lead to diesel fuel savings of 30% monthly. This will be beneficial for the client and for the tenants.
