The first 9 days of NextColony - Some statistics
It's been nine days since NextColony first saw the light of day. So we are still in our infancy and it is certainly too early to draw a conclusion. Nevertheless I would like to share some statistics from the first 9 days with you, which I find very interesting:
User Development
So far, 1809 users have embarked on the journey from Earth to Planet Alpha. This is quite honestly much more than we had hoped and we can only say "Thank you" for your trust. The first user outside of the official team who signed up for the game was by the way @thenaller.
How sticky are users?
Out of the 1809 users, 210 have only played for one day. The remainder however, tends to be very sticky. 504 users have played in at least 8 of the last 9 days, and 923 users have played every day in the last 3 days. So it turns out that users are quite sticky and come back every day to play.
Transaction development
So far, users have sent 161393 transactions to the blockchain. Thank God the Steem Blockchain is so fast and powerful, otherwise such usage figures would be unthinkable. Each user has on average chiselled 89 transactions into the chain, i.e. almost 10 per day. The number of transactions has decreased slightly in the last few days - but this is primarily due to the increasingly longer times for upgrades and enhancements.
Transaction types
As the game begins with the exploitation of your own skills and buildings, it should come as no surprise that most transactions involve the improvement of skills and buildings. 54% of all transactions concerned the improvement of skills, a further 44% the development of buildings such as mines or depots. 1% were new user registrations and the remainder is divided among various transaction types. Items from the shop were also activated over 1200 times and a total of 182 items were given away to other users.
Which skills were primarily developed?
53.2% of skill enhancements concerned the development of skills for the mines. Interestingly, the mines were developed relatively evenly. There is only a small preference for the coal mine (13.8% of all skill transactions), flown from the ore mine (13.4%) and the uranium mine. On average, all users are currently upgrading their mine skills to about level 6-7. Depots, on the other hand, are only developed at levels 3-4.
The skills for the development of ships, on the other hand, show a much stronger spread. On the one hand, more than 20 users have reached Explorer Skill Level 20, which is necessary to build an Explorer. On the other hand, many users have not yet really started these resources intensive skills but are concentrating on the development of the mines for the time being.
What is the state of exploration
We know that it is a cumbersome process to develop the skills necessary to build your first space ship. However, as of today 14 users have reached the Explorer Skill Level 20. So far, 30 ships have been built or are in the ship yard right now. 37 explore missions were concluded and 1 planet has been found by @reggaemuffin. Also, two explorers so far are missing in action and lost in space. The unlucky ones are @twinner and @reggaemuffin.
Whats next?
Exploration numbers will most likely sky rocket in the next days as more users acquire the necessary skill and users will be able to do more than one mission at a time after increasing their missioncontrol skill. Afterwards, the next big step forward will be battles, which as of today are scheduled to be relaesed on June 8th 2019.

I have a little competitive advantage as I am part of the dev team, so I take them directly from our database. You could analyse the data also however by analysing the chain.
I don't see google analytics or other data-gathering software on the site. So, how do you know which features users use or want?
Also, the economy seems ineffective on first stages of the game. Retention could be severely worsen by it.
We can see what people use and do by analyzing the transactions. That is the magic of the blockchain.
On your second point, we know that it is cumbersome to reach your first explorer which allows you to explore space. But we need to do it like this, otherwise people would just play with too many alt accounts and farm them.
It's great, I agree. But blockchain could not answer the question what people do on site?
What is bot share in userbase?
How do people with small screens feel themselves interacting with nexcolony?
How much time ETA from login to first transaction?
I'm sorry, i'm data analyst and see a lot of times when answering such questions in the early stages of product dramatically helped its growth. More traffic and better UX -> more monetization -> much more resources to develop great game.
I see your concern. There is not a great deal of content right now so you cant afford for an average user to consume it on the first day. But pointlessly upgrading 10 buildings for a week sucks. Brings no dophamine and dophamine is the point on why ppl love games.
You are right - this data we do not have at the moment. We have been reluctant so far to record more data. We get the access data from the Webserver log as well, but the questions you ask would be nice to know of course.
I could help if you are interested. Need RabbitMQ + Postgres + 1 simple python service and then you could push any data from backend into queue and it will be safely stored into DB for later analysis and online dashboarding.
Also you could install G.Analytics on your site. It's more complicated to rip the data from there but does provide a few userful dashboard from scratch.

Awesome! This rate of user retention actually is unusually high, but likely will not remain that high in case the game starts to scale. Still it's great that you guys have managed to activate the community so effectively.

Wie kann das passieren, daß ein Schiff verlorengeht?
Explorer haben ein 5% Risiko, dass das Schiff verloren geht. Das Schiff wagt sich ja in bislang unbekannt Gefilde vor, da kann aber so einiges passieren ;-)
