Sorry, I'm not mechanically-minded enough to offer any advice - besides using polystyrene to pack an insulating box, perhaps.

We used a ram at one house where we only had a small tank to collect rainwater, so the ram was bought and popped into a nearby stream below us. Our neighbours already had one in for their own needs so we knew it would work. Worked wonderfully. We never had such frosts at that house to do any damage. Thieves tho, we had to watch out for!

Yeah I agree that an insulating box will be required!! A bit annoying but gotta do something.
Oh cool to hear you used to use one to. They are a great setup as long as they're operating correctly and all the time. Haha and not in multiple pieces XD
I dont think thieves will be a problem for us, well touch wood anyway.
