French riots, 45,000 police mobilized, funeral for boy.

Paris, France, January 1, 2012 - The riots triggered by the shooting death of a 17-year-old boy by a police officer in Nanterre, a suburb of Paris, France, prompted Interior Minister Darmanan to announce that 45,000 police officers would be mobilized to guard the area throughout France on the same night. In Nanterre, the funeral of the boy was held on the 1st, attended by several hundred people.
According to Darmanan, more police officers were dispatched to Marseille and Lyon in the south, where violent riots broke out on the night of June 30. In Paris, security was also stepped up on the Champs-Elysées, as there were calls on social media for a mob to gather on the street.
According to the Ministry of the Interior, approximately 1,300 people were detained on the night of June 30, bringing the total number of people detained so far to approximately 2,400.
