A big day tomorrow in the history of Pakistan
I am sure most of you know about panama Leaks. Well I will give you a slight overview of what happened. So a Law Company namely "Mossack Fonseca" unintentionally leaked a huge junk of secretive documents. The documents contains a hint on how the rich people use offshore companies to evade taxes and hide the ownership of money. These companies hide the owner of the money, thus helping them to avoid payment of taxes. The leak has link to 12 current or former head of states, including dictators accused of looting money from their own country. Sadly but expectedly 3 of the 4 children of our sitting prime minister Nawaz Shareef names were also mentioned in the papers.
Being a Pakistani, I am well aware of the fact that how our politicians were to respond to this, off course deny the claims and curse panama for developing conspiracy against the state. The same happened, Nawaz Shareef openly denied the claims of panama and declared the papers false and conspiracy against his family. The local population were also too busy to read the papers and decide for themselves.
One man , Imran khan; the Pakistani cricketer turned politician took it to the street and asked the government to either resign or prove its innocence in the court. After an intense sitting of more then 2 weeks on the roads of Islamabad by 10,000 people encouraged the Supreme court to action. Supreme court formed a special 5 member committee to hear the proceedings. The objective of the committee was to search for any loophole in the money trial of Nawaz Family.
After 8 weeks of judicial inquiry, finally came the day for supreme court decision. Astonishingly 2 out of 5 judges found Nawaz guilty "not honest and truthful" as required by the constitution of Pakistan, while 3 of them wanted more detailed analysis of the documents. Ironically, SC report starting lines were from God father movie: Behind every great fortune, there is a crime. Soon after Joint investigation team was formed and 60 days deadline was given to present a full fledged report of the proceedings. Members from Military intelligence, ISI, State Bank of Pakistan, FIA, NAB and SC were part of the team.
Hopes were that after such a bashing report, Nawaz will resign from the office embarrassingly and let the way for re election, but quite the opposite happened, Nawaz's supporter held him as a hero and a survivor, sweets were distributed on the streets and people danced to the decision.
When the JIT started working on the case, things started heating up, Nawaz family members faced intense scrutiny in the history of Pakistan's court. Nawaz himself came before the team to answer questions on his wealth and offshore companies. Some activists of N-league even threatened the JIT members and their families just like the Sicilian mafia would murder judges. JIT concluded its report with in the deadline and presented it before the apex court.
JIT report conclusions were highly biased, accusing Nawaz and his family of money laundering and tax evasion. The JIT faced a lot of criticism due to its harsh nature and bold remarks. The report left no place for mercy.
"calibiri font" was all over the media as the font was used in one of the documents submitted by Mariam Nawaz daughter of Nawaz Shareef, the documents were dated back to 2006, however according to JIT, Calibiri font wasn't released until April, 2007.
The reports have finally been submitted to supreme court and its now up to the court whether Nawaz can stay as a prime minister or not. The decision will be historical and influential in the politics of Pakistan. Nawaz removal might lead to instability and Martial Law, which is even worse than Nawaz himself, and Nawaz escape will mean lack of justice for the elites. Whatever happens we are here to face it with open arms.
Just 12 hours remaining until the supreme court verdict.
I was reading about this case few days ago, there is also option of going into Nab court. If i am correct, then this case has already taken whole year already approximately and it is still demanding more time. Lets see what happens..
what it looks like is that the supreme court is allowing for the PMLN term to be over which and then let the normal elections takes place. It will also not harm the democracy and avoid any crisis situation.
Its out, prime minister has been disqualified by the court
