The $98,000 Ramen Noodle Heist

A 53-foot tractor trailer filled with about $98,000 worth of ramen noodles was stolen from a Chevron gas station in Fayetteville, Georgia.

The driver had parked the tractor trailer on July 25 after receiving permission from the owner of the gas station to leave it there for several days, said Lt. Allen Stevens, public information officer for the Fayette County Sheriff's Office. The driver later returned to the location on Aug. 1 to find the vehicle missing, Stevens said.

There are no suspects at this time.

My Commentary:
This has to be one of the most ridiculous crimes I have ever heard of.

Who are you going to sell the pilfered ramen to, where are you going to store all of it in the meantime and why would you risk the time in prison to steal packaged ramen...?

I guess I'll just hope it was some kind soul who plans to redistribute the soup to the homeless like some kind of Ramen Robin Hood.

Family of 7 Dies on Way to Vacation

Erika Carter Boquet, 29, was driving her 2016 Toyota 4 Runner eastbound on Oregon Highway 78 when an oncoming vehicle veered into her lane, authorities said.

Boquet, of Tacoma, Washington, and her children Isabella, 11; Elisabeth, 8; and Tytis, 6, were killed, Boquet’s brother, Jesse Tate, told The Associated Press.

Another relative and her two children also perished in the Monday crash. Tate declined to name them because of the wishes of their immediate family.

The driver and sole occupant of the other car, 48-year-old Mark Robert Rundell, of Prairie City, Oregon, also died.

My Commentary:
Incredibly tragic. It's always disheartening to see an entire family taken in one fell swoop.

My heart goes out to their families, I hope they are able to find peace and I really hope they aren't hounded by the media for their story. These people definitely deserve some respect and privacy while they grieve.

Pregnant Mom, 2 Young Daughters Vanish in Colorado

A pregnant Colorado mother and her two young daughters have mysteriously vanished -- and local police are vowing to "not rest until we have the answers."

Shanann Watts, 34, and her two daughters -- Celeste, 3, and Bella, 4 -- were reported missing on Monday, according to the police department in Frederick, which is about 35 miles north of Denver.

Police were notified Monday by a concerned family friend who hadn't heard from Watts, who is 15 weeks pregnant, police said.

Police are now asking for the public's help to find the missing mother and young girls.

When the mother and daughters disappeared, Watts' phone, purse and keys were left behind at home, said her husband, Chris Watts, according to ABC affiliate KMGH in Denver.

"When I came home and then walked in the house, nothing. Vanished. Nothing was here," he told KMGH.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Colorado Bureau of Investigation are helping local police with the case.

Anyone with information is urged to call the Frederick Police Department at 720-382-5700.

I hate these stories because they so rarely end well.

My thoughts go out to the family and I hope they are found safely.

Two Democrats are poised to become the first Muslim women in Congress

Two Democrats are poised to become the first Muslim women in Congress, offering a sharp counterpoint to the anti-Muslim policies and sentiment surfacing in Washington and across the country.

Ilhan Omar, a Minnesota state lawmaker and Somali-American former refugee, is favored to take a seat in Congress after winning her Democratic primary in a left-leaning Minnesota District on Tuesday. And in Michigan last week, Palestinian American Rashida Tlaib won her Detroit-area primary and runs unopposed in November.

In a year when a record number of women are running for Congress and races across the country include gay, lesbian and transgender candidates, Omar and Tlaib represent a new addition to the diversity of this election cycle.

Born in Somalia, Omar spent four years of her childhood in a Kenyan refugee camp before moving to the United States. Her district encompasses Minneapolis and surrounding suburban area, home to the largest Somali community in the country.

President Donald Trump has targeted Omar's district, warning that Somali immigrants are a "disaster" for Minnesota. Omar and Tlaib have vehemently opposed the president's ban on travelers from several Muslim-majority countries, and in 2016 Tlaib famously heckled Trump during his speech in Detroit.

Ilhan Omar, a Minnesota state lawmaker and Somali-American former refugee, is favored to take a seat in Congress after winning her Democratic primary in a left-leaning Minnesota district on Tuesday. She faces a challenge from Republican Jennifer Zielinski in November. And in Michigan last week, Palestinian-American Rashida Tlaib won her Detroit-area primary and runs unopposed in November.

In a year when a record number of women are running for Congress and races across the country include gay, lesbian and transgender candidates, Omar and Tlaib represent a new addition to the diversity of this election cycle.

Omar attracted national attention after becoming the first Somali-American elected to Minnesota Legislature, unseating a 22-term Democratic incumbent. For her primary run, she received support from left-leaning groups and an endorsement from Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, whose stunning primary upset over 10-term incumbent Joseph Crowley in New York made national headlines.

If Omar wins in November, she will fill Rep. Keith Ellison's seat. Democrat Ellison, who in 2006 became the first Muslim to be elected to Congress, decided to run for Minnesota attorney general and won his primary, despite an allegation of domestic abuse arising late in the campaign, an accusation he denies.

Tlaib also supported Omar's run, sending a dozen of her campaign workers to Minnesota to canvas for Omar the weekend before the election.

"I can't wait to walk onto the floor of United States Congress hand in hand with you. So incredibly proud of you," Tlaib said of Omar on Twitter.

"When you see a Palestinian person with your name and faith succeed, it shows [the government] can ban us from coming into the country, but not from getting elected," Tlaib told ABC News last week. "Showing people it can be done would be a victory to my family."

Democrat Tlaib, a Detroit native and daughter of Palestinian immigrants, narrowly won her primary race to succeed long time Rep. John Conyers, who resigned last year after sexual harassment allegations. In her heavily Democratic district, less than 5 percent of the population identifies as Arab-American.

Tlaib and Omar championed left-leaning policies, including Medicare for All, a $15 minimum wage and abolishing U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

My Commentary:
Really excited to see America making more progressive choices in their political choices. I really hope this movement and this sentiment stick.

I look forward to a future with a $15 minimum wage, universal healthcare and free college.

I think it's important that we not get complacent in the meantime, we must continue to feel the urgency in fixing our broken system until we have regained control from our corporate overlords...

Suspected ISIS member arrested in Sacramento County

Federal agents in Sacramento arrested a suspected ISIS member Wednesday on charges that he killed an Iraqi police officer in 2014 in the Rawah District of Al-Anbar province as fighters were taking over the town.

Omar Abdulsattar Ameen, 45, was arrested in a raid at an Eastern Avenue apartment complex in Sacramento County and appeared in federal court Wednesday afternoon as part of extradition proceedings to return him to Iraq to face trial on a charge of premeditated murder.

Court documents unsealed Wednesday afternoon describe Ameen as a “terrorist” and leader of al-Qaida forces that captured and executed soldiers, and as a close associate of well-known terror leaders in the region.

Ameen, who wore a neatly trimmed beard and short haircut, is described in court documents as wanted in the slaying of Ihsan Abdulhafiz Jasim after witnesses identified him through several photos.

The documents say Ameen started working with terrorist cells in 2004 and was a founder of al-Qaida groups and “one of the close associates of Abu Mus’ ab al-Zaqqawi.”

Later, court documents say, he took control of the military leadership of and finances of al-Qaida groups in Anbar province.

“He committed the most heinous crimes against the citizens and security forces at that time,” documents say, allegedly taking soldiers as prisoners and executing them.

The documents, some of which identify the suspect by the full name of Omar Abdulsattar Ameen Husayn al-Sarhan al-Rawi, ask the U.S. government for “the kind assistance of the US competent authorities in the extradition” of the suspect.

My Commentary:
This is gonna scare the crap out of Americans and will surely renew their fear of "radical extreme Islam" to learn that the enemy was living so close to home.

I really hope we can move forward past our fear of people who don't look like us some time soon. Trump supporters live their lives like every Muslim is born with a bomb strapped to their chest.

I wish people weren't so ignorant of each other.
