Tobacco Companies Want Their Product To Be Addictive and Unsafe!!!

in #news6 years ago (edited)

My memory

When I was a freshman in high-school, our class had a rare opportunity to meet one of the scientists who was on the verge of creating a breakthrough with his research. His team was contracted by big tobacco companies approximately between the 60's and 80's to create a safer, non-addictive, alternative version of cigarettes. At the time, the tobacco companies fear the health risks that the products are causing their consumers. More specifically, they were afraid of the potential lawsuits that was coming their way. After countless failures with the lab rats, they finally created a batch of non-cancerous chemicals to replace the ones that was found in cigarettes. After reporting the results to their boss, the tobacco companies decided to abruptly halt the research. Some of the researchers were not happy. Those who weren't happy, were fired. Effective immediately. They were ordered to killed all the rats, hand over their research, and shut down the lab. One man, the person who was giving us the presentation, decided to sneak into the lab and retrieve his research...along with one rat. He immediately went home and decided to hire a lawyer to protect himself. Bad mistake. After gaining the researcher's trust, the lawyer ransacked the home and stole the research. A message was left to the researcher. I can't recalled the message, but it was probably somewhere along the line of "FUCK YOU". Apparently, the lawyer was working for the big tobacco companies the whole time. At the end of the presentation, the guest speaker held out a plastic bag with a dead rat in it. It was the only thing left of his research.

My research

Years later, his story was ingrained in my head. I didn't know why, but the story resonated with me. I decided to do some research to see if he's the real deal or just some wacko that my school had hired. I typed in "nicotine+tobacco+1994+rats+lab+research"and I found a newspaper article. This is what I got...

What a story. We live in a twisted world indeed.

With all the money that they had made, they could've easily create a safer alternative to their products, but instead they have all these toxic chemicals. Also, I'm sure there are plenty of other chemicals than nicotine that are way safer, but still maintain that "stress relief" effect that everyone been craving. If you like the post, please share the story.

Thanks for the reply, I was shocked to learn all this. Your post deserves to be shared and known by everyone, @tntdabomb!

What do you mean by using less footers with questionable titles? Also, I want to apologize for using a long quote. I just wanted to provide people the option of reading more about it. I would provide a link, but you need a subscription to access the content.

Are all things questionable advertisers would see. The extra amount of exclamation marks don't help.
Quotes should always contain a link to the source, no matter if they are behind a pay-wall. This is called "giving credit where credit's due."

Okay. I will keep that in mind next time. I erased the quotes and found a readable link to post up. Thanks for keeping me in check. As a college student, I should be ashamed of myself haha. I guess I got lazy due to low restriction and posting on a decentralize platform

Don't necessarily need to erase quotes, just make sure they're probably identifiable as quotes with source listed instead of selling or making out someone elses work as yours.

however, the one thing I will be stubborn about is my advertising. A man gotta make his money.

It's fine to advertise as long as you're clear what is your opinion and what is paid for. If you have been paid to but these images/texts as they are at the bottom of the posts then mention that fact, otherwise it thought to be your uninfluenced opinions. As you've mentioned that you make money I think the former is the case.
