Police are blocking fair elections in Khulna: BNP
BNP's standing committee member Nazrul Islam Khan demanded that the fair election environment in Khulna was hampered by the police, "some police activities are blocking free, fair and neutral elections in Khulna city corporation. There are reasons why the BNP activists are being harassed due to non-political reasons. They are not allowed to stay at home. Intentionally being arrested while at the time.
After the meeting with chief election commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda about the Khulna City Corporation election on Sunday (May 13th) in the capital's Agargaon constituency, he complained to the journalists of the party after the meeting.
Nazrul Islam Khan said, "Women police officers at the KCC polling grounds, our women agents, male police are threatening male agents, fearing. For this reason many people have to change the list of agents. Because many people refuse to stay in the Agents under pressure.
He said, 'We have come here today to the commission, because the police administration of Khulna city is now under the control of the Election Commission. You control them. So that they did not arrest and harass our leaders and workers. We told the commission, that the ward of the 24 ward has been eroded in the office of the ward, the ward office of 26 has locked the Awami League people. I have said these things. And take care of what you take.
Nazrul Islam further said, 'They will do their best today also. Do not let it happen. They said that they should take action and what they should do. They will take action against that. They want to make fair elections, it does not want to have any illicit influence spread. We have heard them say these words and there is no doubt that these words are comforting. But unfortunately, what happens next to it is not comfortably at all. We told them what you are saying, just do that. There is only one day left. You are independent election commission, the power you have, the power that you apply it to ensure peace. And arrange to release those who are arrested unfairly and obstructing our activities.
It is said that those who are being arrested by the police are the terrorists mentioned in the case and asked for their case. He said, 'There is no case during this government. The number of such BNP leaders is very low. There are 35 cases in the name of our Chairperson, 88 cases in the name of Secretary General. If there is a case then can not be arrested. Arrested panoana takes place to arrest. Many of those arrested have no warrant for arrest.
Before that you wanted to recall the Khulna police officers. But the EC secretary said, in a short time, they can not be withdrawn. Nazrul Islam said, "We demanded the withdrawal of those whom we felt as very enthusiastic, who were forcibating the oppression of our activists. If the Election Commission thinks- No
If they can not be withdrawn within a short time, then at least they should ensure that no one will be harassed unfairly in the name of protecting law and order. They should not choose our leaders and choose them. Do not adopt the technique to weaken our candidates and win the candidates of the government.
Responding to another question from the journalists, he said, "It is useful if the people of the government came and asked for any request. It does not take effect when we request it. This is the reality now. But beyond this reality we are participating in the elections and we have confidence in the people that they will overcome all adversity, Inshallah will win our candidate.
If this situation continues in the adverse situation, will you stay in the election grounds if this situation continues? Asked to know, Nazrul Islam said, "We want to believe that the Chief Election Commissioner and the Election Commissioners have said that they will be effective." With this belief we are going. Although we have not already found evidence of this. But we hope that the Commission will play an appropriate role to maintain the electoral environment.
Four Election Commissioners, EC Secretaries were present along with CEC in the meeting. The BNP delegation included Vice Chairman Mohammad Shahjahan and Joint Secretary General Barrister Mahbub Uddin Khokan.
Amgi will be held on May 15 (Khulna City Corporation elections) on May 15.
