Never Left His Own Property, I Guess Law Enforcement Got Tired Of Waiting.

in #news7 years ago

This is from CNN.

Gino Rea was arrested in his own driveway for Operating Under the Influence of Liquor.

He was in his car, "listening to music" in his driveway at the back of his house.

It wasn't until the THIRD time that law enforcement came to his house that they arrested him.

He never left his own property.

There was no evidence that he ever intended to leave his property.

Shockingly, the Michigan Supreme Court upheld his conviction!

Think twice before having a beer while you mow your lawn in Michigan.

How long before we start seeing people arrested & convicted for laws they might break in the future?

What was that Tom Cruise movie, Idiocracy? ;-)

Sort:

This is so stupid! Ugh things like this make me mad! A driveway is literally your home and property wtf!

Yes, and if you caught what his attorney said, the courts decided that the road was "generally accessible" so, yeah.

I'm not sure where in the world you could have a motor vehicle that wasn't "generally accessible" to the road. That's pretty much how they get moved from one place to another.

Ha' totally!

Any room left in Canada?

2 adults, 2 teenage kids and 3 dogs, you'd probably never notice us.

Well let's see... We are the second largest country on the planet and we have 1/10 of the population of the USA. Look at a map: everybody in Canada would make up the population of California -- and there's lots of room left in California, just not a lot of water... and yes, we have PLENTY of water too ;)

Thanks,

It's nice to have options.

Just in case.

I'd make the same offer but I can't in good conscience tell anyone to come here.

Detroit...a stronghold of socialists and democrats (but I repeat myself)..that pretty much explains it.

I wonder why he stays there?
If I was him I'd move.

We live north of Detroit (lifelong Michigan residents) and I swear sometimes I feel embarrassed to say I am from Michigan. Sad situation with the ruling by high court.
I do know here, even if you have your key in the ignition (car not running) and you are texting that is officially breaking the law.
And I remember a few years back some guy out towards Ann Arbor perhaps was riding his lawn mower while intoxicated, after he has license revoked for DUIs, etc.. they arrested him for driving impaired. He was on his front lawn. I mean, c'mon, go after the REAL criminals

go after REAL criminals?
are you CRAZY?
real criminals have GUNS!

Did you hear the latest? 8 people are running for mayor.. four of them have criminal records. I know, I know... most politicians have a criminal history but these four have proven records- assault, weapons charges, etc. Yeah, that's what my great state is coming to

yeah...I heard about it.
I figured that was pretty normal for DeToilet.

Guns and offices at the State Capital.

Hired guns.

any government that doesn't want the citizens to be armed.
has a reason to do so.

Well duh, it's obviously for our safety.

We might hurt ourselves.

And that's their exclusive privilege.

I didn't dig to see if it actually happened in DeToilet or if it was just reported in De-News.

Not that the guy seemed especially bright, but if being stupid is finally against the law, I'm going to start buying stock in Corrections Corp of Murica

Doesn't surprise me at all. Seems like sometimes police are more than happy to write a ticket even if they know nothing is "actually" being violated. That's what happens when we put a minimum number of tickets required by police per month. If they see running behind, they often have to actively look for laws being broken.

more than happy to write a ticket even if they know nothing is "actually" being violated.

And then it falls on the "citizen" to prove their innocence.

Don't get me started on civil asset forfeiture. That's become a huge source of revenue for law enforcement at every level.

Is that when they can steal your money if. Ou can't prove why you have it? For example walking around with 10k cash an officer could literally steal that from you if you can't offer a legal reason for having it.

Yes, and good luck trying to get it back.

It was a few years ago, maybe even decades, but at one point, virtually every US bill in circulation tested positive for some kind of illegal drug residue. Not to mention the fact that the infallible crime labs you see on TV aren't so infallible (or always honest) in real life.

I'd say fallible to begin with and then compounding by refusing to admit failure

and made worse by insisting they're correct.

Take bite mark "science" for instance. Not sure where it was but within the last 6-9 months there was a crime lab "scientist" exposed as a complete fraud, didn't even have the credentials they claimed. Literally thousands of cases where their "expert" testimony was used to convict.

Oops.

what makes those cases horrible on top of prosecution of the innocent, is that the guilty who were convicted based on the dishonesty of those labs may be released.

what is the lab going to say?
we were only wrong in the one cases

aint nobody going to buy that

not to mention the civil suits against the cities.

I'm mostly worried that it's going to affect the pensions of those hard working civil servants.

Ah Michigan... The pimple on the asshole of the world!

Some parts are nice, except for the F!*king tourists.

My kids live in Harrison... all F**King tourists!

I'm just outside of Holland, I know tourists.

And the Dutch.

I've got a son in the Traverse City area... The western part of the state is pretty popular with tourists. My other son has a remodel company- he specializes in resorts (golf mostly) so I guess the tourists keep him going.

My lawn tractor has a cup holder. I guess the next time I want to have a beer while I work I'd better pour it into a soda can first.

And maintain friendly relations with your neighbors.

That'll also cut down on your drinking, one can for you, the other five to buy the silence of your neighbors.

See, it's stimulating the economy.

Haha props on that Tom Cruise movie mention!

It was a bit of a mashup but I think the Idiocracy part was what fit the situation best.

Crime is in the eye of the accuser apparently.

According to his attorney, the police were "speculating" as to his future intentions.

Once you open that door, the enforcers aren't going to back out peacefully.

But orwellian precrime punishments might PROTECT THE CHILDREN!!!

Shit, I totally forgot about the children. Someone should speculate as to whether or not I might forget about the children again in the future, and have me dragged away in shackles.

Criminals have guns. Why would a cop want to mess with them. Go after the soft targets instead.

Asking for a friend, can a person get a dwi on a bigwheel?

Not sure but I think I remember someone on a riding lawnmower getting one, they may have included driving on a suspended license as well.
