Intercontinental Hotel will be launched next May. Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister AKM Shahjahan Kamal said this to the question of Awami League party MP Israfil Alam in response to the question hour of the session of the 19th session of the 10th Jatiya Sangsad on Tuesday afternoon.
After independence, more than three years ago, the former Sheraton and later Ruposhi Bangla Hotel traded in the hotel. In 2014 Intercontinental Hotel (IHG) Group gets ownership of the hotel.

Minister Shahjahan Kamal told Parliament that the repair cost of Ruposhi Bangla Hotel was fixed at Tk 5.77 million five lakhs. After the completion of the work on June 30, 2016, I was scheduled to hand over to IHG by October of that year.
But due to the failure of the administration and skilled manpower to complete the project, the project implementing agency will leave the project site on 30 June 2016 after issuing a notice for the termination of the contract. Thereby, the reform work was temporarily closed.
The minister said that after the renovation work was completed by January 31, 2018, the transfer process will begin gradually to the IHG. The IHG has set the time for commencement of commercial operations of this hotel by the end of May, 2018, after the required examination, commissioning and balancing.
The hotel was closed for renovations from September 2014, according to the terms of the contract executed between IHG and Bangladesh Services Limited.
