On the Many, Many Crimes of Imran Awan
Bonne heure-locale, mes amours, and what a week it has been: so let's just dig into this controversy surrounding Debbie Wasserman-Schultz and Imran Awan. The intro meme, by the way, is by a YouTuber called "Rapeable", and he's got a lot of great work on his channel -- you should check him out.
But with Imran Awan's arrest this past Monday, pertaining to his attempt to take out a $300,000 loan from Wright Patman Congressional Federal Credit Union before fleeing the country. However, even after the original Congressional investigations nearly 8 months ago now, Imran Awan and his wife, Hina Alvi, have remained on Debbie Wasserman-Schultz's payroll and working as her IT consultants -- in fact, her only two IT consultants.
After Awan's arrest on Monday, Wasserman-Schultz had no choice but to fire him; however, had he not been caught fleeing the country, there is no indication she would have stopped paying him: to the contrary, she seems to have been completely aware of the flight he was to take to Pakistan.
But the story of Imran Awan is not one that begins with a Congressional investigation into stolen and destroyed hard-drives, and forged IDs and documents; oh no. Imran Awan has a reputation around Washington, according to multiple sources you can find below, and that is the reputation of a charming and cunning manipulator.
From the Daily Caller:
Relatives said that Imran Awan had such a penchant for taking advantage of people that his stepmother called the police and accused him of extortion, while his father had changed his last name so he wouldn't share it with his son.
Among almost every person interviewed by the DCNF, those that knew him -- including close relatives -- described Imran as a savvy person and a calculating tactician who had tried to scam them.
In one example of that, he filmed a bizarre video of his father signing a financial document that he correctly anticipated would become subject of fraud allegations. He flaunted his supposed power in government, many said.
And I have that clip of him filming his father signing a document: link
And yet, Imran Awan had very friendly relationships with a few Representatives, including New York Representative Gregory Meeks, and to a much greater degree, Florida Representative Debbie Wasserman-Schultz. But even if not good friends, he was the man to call among Democratic Representatives; among the leaked DNC e-mails are many references to Awan possessing the passwords to devices that contain or can access classified material, owned by leaders in the DNC.
However, this was only to be expected, as the very "private e-mail server" for which Hillary Clinton was held to account was only replaced by servers of Awan's design, for the DNC, meaning that every bit of data the DNC had was under his purview and control.
Imran Awan, his two brothers Abid and Jamal, and his wife Hina all took home remarkable salaries as shared-employees in the Congressional buildings; with more than twenty clients at one point, the youngest brother took home more than $165,000 alone, bypassing legislation that states Congressional staffers cannot make more than their elected officials by picking up so many clients. Between the four of them, they were paid a combined $5 million dollars between 2005 and 2016 -- $5 million tax-payer dollars through a questionably-legal money-making scheme.
But despite crying "Russians" more often than Ronald Reagan's hypothetical pet parrot, Debbie Wasserman-Schultz fired Imran's two brothers at the beginning of this year, after a criminal investigation was begun into the breaking-into and stealing of between 20 and 80 computers or computer parts from the Congressional Offices in February -- an investigation which led to them finding several suspicious mortgage transfers, and a debt-evasion bankruptcy on the family's records, as well as more than a million dollars in debt for his failed car-rental business, Cars International A.
And yet, Imran and his wife were kept on-payroll with Debbie Wasserman-Schultz, even as every other Representative had them fired.
And so, when Imran Awan took out the $300,000 loan from Wright Congressional Federal Credit Union, wired it wholesale to Pakistan, and travelled to the airport, he was intercepted by the FBI forthright. After being allowed to get away with every crime he could set his mind to, it was the mistake of forgetting that the FBI sees every transaction over $10,000 that leaves the United States.
This, following FBI agents seizing the smashed computer hard drives and active computer equipment from Imran Awan's home in Virginia, on July 23rd, as part of the growing probe into the potentially-illegal violations on the House IT Network. These computers and hard drives are added to the already growing collection of military and government-issued computer hardware collected from his previous home in Virginia, which he began renting out shortly after his brothers were fired in February, which had been left in the garage for his new tenants to find.
Imran Awan wanted those hard drives back so desperately, that he repeatedly threatened to sue the Marine Corps veteran and his Naval Officer wife -- who had long since turned over the equipment to Naval Criminal Investigative Services. But with investigations into bank fraud, computer fraud, and so much more laying at Imran Awan's feet while he waits in holding, I highly doubt he will be able to manipulate his way out of this one.
