Asian Development Bank (ADB) has given loans on difficult conditions for the design of Padma bridge. Every year about 25 crores is being paid against that loan.

According to the sources, the agreement was signed with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) on 10 July 2008. Under this, ADB gave loan of 1 crore 11 lakh 79 thousand SDRs or about 100 crore taka. The interest rate on these loans is 6 percent. The loan will be repaid in 20 years, whose grace period is five years. Later, the expenditure on the construction of the Padma bridge increased. Then on 3 May 2010, ADB signed another loan agreement with another 62 lakh 74 thousand SDRs or another Tk 70 crore. Interest on this loan was 6 percent.

The bridge division signed an agreement with the organization on January 19, 2009. In 2011, the construction of the bridge was reduced to reduce the design time. It has to pay 15 crore 60 lakh taka a year. And according to the second loan agreement, two lakh 9 thousand 133 SDRs or four crore 38 lakhs have to pay real interest and interest. It has to pay 8 crore 76 lakh taka every year.
According to the sources, the payment of 24 crore 37 lakhs per year under two loans is about to pay. However, the exchange rate of SDR has increased. Now we have to pay about 25 crores of rupees a year for the construction of the Padma Bridge. Due to lack of income, bridge division can not repay the loan. An official said on condition of anonymity, the bridge division agreement with the Economic Relations Division (ERD) under the Ministry of Finance was signed against ADB's loan for Padma bridge design project. Since 2013, the loan installment was due to be paid. However, the construction of the main bridge was not started. According to the rules, the payment of installment of the bridge division amount to the payment of the loan installment. But due to the lack of capacity of the bridge division, ERD was requested to pay the installment of the loan. Accordingly, they are still paying the installment of the loan. According to the condition, the first installment of the loan will be paid on June 30, 2028 and the second installment of the second loan upto December 31, 2029.
