Airlines make money by reducing your leg room!

in #news7 years ago (edited)

Airlines are shrinking your seat to make bank. The airline interior industry is worth $17 Billion and growing, it’s expected to hit $29 Billion by 2021. Airline seats have been shrinking over the years while the average weight of the American's weight is rising by about 15lbs over the past two decades.

So, how are they making seats smaller?
They are making is small by slowly cutting back on leg room and the space between rows. Seat manufacturers have even made the seats less thick. They also move magazine holders from the back of the seat to the top. So people bump their knees as easily. Contouring seats to match the curve of the plane's walls can also maximize width.

The reason behind all this madness?
To accommodate more passengers and more passengers means more money.

Are they doing this now? With all airlines? Domestic and/or International flights?

Yup! this is insane.
I'm quite sure for Domestic flights. Not quite sure for International ones.
