At Least 20 People Dead, More Than 100 Injured In Shooting On The Las Vegas Strip

At least 20 people were killed, and more than 100 injured, after a shooter opened fire on an outdoor country music festival on the Las Vegas Strip Sunday night.

Clark County Sheriff Joseph Lombardo confirmed that one suspect is dead, after he was confronted by police on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay hotel, located across from the music venue where the concert had taken place. The suspect, who police believe was the sole shooter, had opened fire on concert-goers from the hotel.

Police did not identify the shooter, but did say that he was a local resident. Though police believe it was a "lone wolf" attack, Lombardo said, authorities are currently looking for a "female companion," identified as Marilou Danley, as a person of interest in the shooting.

At least two officers were injured while responding to the attack, Lombardo said. Two other off-duty police officers are among the deceased.

Hours after the shooting, social media posts showed people continuing to hide out in casinos and hotels along the Las Vegas Strip. While authorities are "pretty sure" that the threat has been eliminated following the shooting, Lombardo said, police are asking people to continue to shelter in place until officers were able to respond at their locations.
