Sex scandal: Weinstein Company could shut down
The production house co-founded by Harvey Weinstein could close or be sold while his future is pending after serious charges of rape and sexual assault against the Hollywood tycoon, the Wall Street Journal said Friday.
Citing a source close to the company, the business daily said the board members of The Weinstein Company "discussed with potential buyers" after Mr. Weinstein's dismissal on Sunday following a series of charges of sexual harassment that run for three decades, revealed last week in a New York Times investigation. New Yorker magazine published Tuesday its own investigation, where several actresses accuse Weinstein of rape.
Two hypotheses are mentioned: the sale of the studio which would continue to work with one or more new owners, or its closing and the sale of its catalog of movies and TV series. The WSJ specifies that another option - naming Harvey's brother and other studio founder Bob Weinstein, and David Glasser's company chairman with the new name - was abandoned.
The works of the Weinstein Company and Miramax ("Pulp Fiction", "Kill Bill", "Gangs of New York", "The Artist", "Carol", "Shakespeare in love", "The English patient" ... ) have accumulated 303 nominations and collected 75 Oscar statuettes, among other prestigious awards.
The scandal has also taken away several major production projects. Apple has canceled a series project on Elvis Presley and Amazon said Thursday it is "revising (its) projects with the Weinstein Company" concerning two co-productions.

This is such crazy NEWS. It's not all that surprising considering that there is a lot of similar NEWS like this lately where people in power abuse their power and exploit and take advantage of people working for them. I'm glad there are repercussions for them.
