Kazakh authorities said the situation across the country had stabilized as of Sunday (9/1), today, after the worst riots in 30 years after the country's independence.

According to Russia's Sputnik news agency, 164 people, including two small children, died during violent riots in Kazakhstan over the past week, the Kazakh Health Ministry said on Sunday.

As is known, a series of demonstrations began last week against the increase in fuel prices. The demonstration later developed into a demonstration against the government.

The Ministry of Health said 103 people died in Almaty, Kazakhstan's main city where the violence took place.

Meanwhile, it was reported from Almaty that the Kazakh authorities on Sunday said they had the situation under control across the country after the country was hit by the deadliest violence in 30 years of independence.

Security and intelligence officials told President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev that they were continuing to carry out a "clearance", what Tokayev called a large-scale counterterrorism operation.

Last week, dozens of people died, thousands were arrested, and many buildings were burned.

The situation prompted Tokayev to issue a shoot-and-death order in response to the riots, which he said were caused by bandits and terrorists.
