Tomasz Mackiewicz and Elisabeth Revol had one goal - to reach a top of Nanga Parbat in winter. For last three days whole world of himalayan mountaineering has been living their fight to survive. However their story have not been told loud enough - today I need you to hear it...
Tomek has never had an easy life. When he was young, he felt into a trap of addiction. Mountains pulled him out from the arms of drugs - he completely felt in love with them, they became his new heroine. For instatnce, he reached the top of Chan Tengri and Mount Logan, however his biggest dream and at the same time challenge was to stand on Nanga Parbat.
Mountains attracted also Elisabeth. In her twenties she became the first woman to win over Broad Peack and Gaszerbrum without oxygen tanks and porters. For Revol the "Naked Mountain" was as well an unsurpassed aim.
That exact eight-thousander connected Eli and Tomek in making their dreams come true
On the 25th of January himalayan mountaineers put their feet down. Thay achived to stand at the height of 8000 meters above the sea level without the help from porters and oxygen tanks. Their nightmare begun during their way down, when at the hight of 7400 meters, the weather conditions dramatically changed, preventing them from going further.
According to the Frenchman, Tomasz Mackiewicz contracted altitude sickness, snow blindness and numerous frostbites, so he was unable to descend further. He stayed. Elisabeth had to leave her partner and take a risky attempt to save herself.
During an expedition to morderous K2, other polish himalayan mountaineers found out about the problem of Mackiewicz and Revol. Having resigned from their own trip, as volunteers, they went to rescue the imprisoned ones. The team of heroes composed of Adam Bielecki, Denis Urubko, Jarosław Botor and Piotr Tomala made the impossible by climbing at night, in extremely difficult conditions and by that saving Elisabeth Revol's life. Despite the great willingness and dedication, rescuers were not able to save Tomek. The weather would have taken not one life, but five.
Today, in Poland and France you can hear everywhere about glorious performance of polish rescuers. Their sacrifice should have not been forgotten. Their act of courage changed the face of himalayan mountaineering.
Tomek made it to the top of Nanga Parbat. He gave up his life for his dream. Now he is in place, where he has always belonged...

Tomasz Mackiewicz i Elisabeth Revol mieli jeden cel - zdobyć Nanga Parbat zimą. Ich walką od trzech dni żył cały świat himalaizmu. Historia ta nie została jednak opowiedziana wystarczająco głośno - dziś pragnę, żebyście również wy ją usłyszeli...
Tomek nigdy nie miał łatwego życia. W młodości wpadł w sidła uzależnienia. Z objęć narkotyków wyrwały go góry - pokochał je całym sercem i to one stały się jego nowym nałogiem. Zdobył między innymi Chan Tengri oraz Mount Logan, jednakże jego największym marzeniem, a także wyzwaniem stało się pokonanie kolosa, jakim jest Nanga Parbat.
Góry zauroczyły Elisabeth kiedy była jeszcze bardzo młoda. Stała się pierwszą kobietą, która bez butli tlenowej zdobyła Broad Peack, Gaszerbrum. Dla Revol "Naga Góra" również była niedoścignionym marzeniem.
To właśnie ten ośmiotysięcznik połączył Elisabeth i Tomka w dążeniu do celu.
25 stycznia himalaiści dopięli swego. Stanęli na wysokości około 8000 m, gdzie jak podają źródła doszli bez tlenu w butlach, a także bez asysty tragarzy. Ich koszmar rozpoczął się w drodze powrotnej, kiedy na wysokości 7400 m warunki pogodowe zaczęły się dramatycznie zmieniać, uniemożliwiając im dalszą podróż.
Według Francuzki Tomasz Mackiewicz nabawił się choroby wysokościowej, śnieżnej ślepoty oraz licznych odmrożeń, przez co nie był w stanie schodzić dalej. Został. Elisabeth musiała porzucić partnera i podjąć ryzykowną próbę ratowania siebie.
O problemach polsko-francuskiej pary dowiedzieli się himalaiści zdobywający morderczą górę K2. Zrezygnowawszy z własnej wyprawy, jako ochotnicy udali się na ratunek uwięzionym. Ekipa bohaterów w składzie: Adam Bielecki, Denis Urubko, Jarosław Botor i Piotr Tomala dokonali niemożliwego wspinając się nocą w niezwykle trudnych warunkach, i tym samym ratując życie Elisabeth Revol. Pomimo ogromnych chęci i poświęcenia ratownicy nie byli w stanie uratować Tomka. Pogoda zabrałaby nie jedno życie, lecz pięć.
Dzisiaj, w Polsce i Francji o chwalebnym wyczynie czwórki polskich ratowników mówią wszyscy. Ich poświęcenie nie powinno zostać zapomniane... To, czego dokonali zmieniło oblicze himalaizmu.
Tomek dotarł na szczyt. Spełnił marzenie, za które oddał życie. Spoczął w miejscu, do którego zawsze zmierzał, do którego należał..

I feel sorry for your loss of one adventurer of your people and I am impressed by the helpfulness and courage of the Polish rescue team. I rather prefer a life according to the Latin saying „medio tutissime ibis“! Being responsible for many people, I would not risk my life unnecessarily...

It's really nice of you, that you took a moment to think about it and even though I may have other point of view, I completetly understand your opinion. Despite he was a hero, he was a little bit selfish. He chased his dream and forgot about loving family :(
Oh, it was more that just one moment... And I would never accuse anybody. He had a dangerous addiction and changed it ínto another. That's the way it was.
