スマートフォンゲームの開発を行う「gumi」が5月30日、仮想通貨及びブロックチェーン事業向けの投資ファンド「gumi Cryptos」を設立すると発表した。
gumi Cryotosは、米国の仮想通貨取引所「Evercoin」の創業者であるMiko Matsumura（ミコ・マツムラ）氏を共同事業者に迎え入れ、仮想通貨向けの事業を展開するベンチャーに出資する会社。
投資ファンドの規模は約30億円になるという。
gumiはこれまで、モバイル動画やVRといった分野の投資を積極的に行っており、新しいサービスを次々に誕生させた。
gumiは投資を通じて得た成功経験や失敗経験を共有、新たな知見を得るという。
そこで得た知見を自社開発のプロダクトに活かす狙いがある。
gumi代表取締役の国光宏尚は「この分野でも同じく、ブロックチェーンならではのモノとは何かを検証していく。これまで、インターネット上のデータはコピーされてしまうものなので、価値を持たなかった。でも、ブロックチェーンによってゲーム内のデータがコピーされず、ユニークなものとなり、資産性を持つという世界になるのかもしれない。」と話す。
gumiはすでにブロックチェーンを活用した自社製品の開発に着手しているという。
