IWD is a day we celebrate the social, economic, cultural, political and even religious role and achievements of women all over the word.
It is a day we appreciate the strength of womanhood in all spheres of life. It has also become an avenue to highlight the myriads of challenges and adversities against their gender, roles , right and health.

On this day , strong political awareness, social engagement and advocacies are usually employed to showcase to the world what womanhood encompasses . Issues such as gender equality, women liberation and widow empowerment are highlighted on this day.

HISTORY OF THE INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY
The IWD has worked the plight and achievements of women for more than a century now.
It all started on February 28, 1909 when about 15,000 marched through the streets New York, USA demanding for better pay, shorter working hours and voting rights.
In 1910 , at the international women's confrence with about 100 women from 17 countries held in Copenhagen and the delegates agreed to that IDW be formed as part of strategy to promote equal rights for women and women' suffrage.
It was first celebrated on march 19, 1911. Two years later in 1913, it was proposed that the date be moved to march 8 and it has been celebrated on this day ever since. It was recognizes by UN in 1975.

TEEM OF 2018 IWD
The team of this year's IWD is PRESS FOR PROGRESS , with the hash tag #PressforProgress, indicating the need to press forward and progress gender parity.
This team was adopted because of the recent World Economic Forum's Global Gender Gap Report which show that it will take we 217 years to close the gender parity gap. Thus, it more important than ever that we aim for progress towards bridging the gap
According to the IWD website , "it is strong call to motivate and unit friends, colleagues and whole communities to think, act and be gender inclusive.

CELEBRATION DONE ON IWD
Events held worldwide include global gatherings, conferences, awards, exhibitions, festivals, fun runs, cooperate events, concert performances, speaking events, online digital gatherings and more

HOW YOU CAN PARTICIPATE
You can attend and participate in any IWD event around you. Check for the location of the event in your country and town on the IWD website. In Abuja Nigeria, Enterprise Development center joins the rest of the world to inspire and celebrate women through various events in all its alumni at NEPC, Plot 424 Aguiyi Ironsi Street Maitama, Abuja.

Then on Saturday by 5pm the Glamorous mothers Development initiative in conjunction with strong Enough Girls Empowerment initiative will be organizing an event for IWD taged PURPLE BALL 2018
