Btc Owned Russian Citizen Cybercrimes in Bangkok Worth $ 820 Million
According to the Bangkok Post, a Russian citizen believed to be the number two in an international cyber crime group was arrested by the police.
Sergey Sergeyevich Medvedev was arrested in Bangkok on Friday (February 2nd) on the request of the US Federal Bureau of Investigation by the Thai Crime Prevention Department (CSD). A laptop computer and documents were taken as evidence by CSD.
A source told the Bangkok newspaper that during his arrest, Medvedev had about 100 million Bitcoins (BTC) worth about $ 820 million dollars. The Post, however, wrote that Medvedev's 100,000 BTC was actually worth 100 million baht, at a value of 26,523,087,316 baht.
It was alleged that Medvedev was primarily responsible for the sale of stolen credit cards, identities and illegally obtained government documents, and the director of the Dark Web site Infraud, the slogan "In Fraud We Trust".
On February 7, the US Department of Justice (DOJ) issued an indictment of 36 people, including Medvedev, accused of joining Infraud. The DOJ arrested 13 criminals from 17 different countries who defrauded victims for $ 530 million and led a $ 2.2 billion loss.
