Bangladesh elected a member of the UN Human Rights Council
Bangladesh has been elected a member of the UN Human Rights Council. Bangladesh is elected for the 2019-2021 period with 178 votes. The Geneva-based organization works on human rights issues around the world.
Members of the General Assembly of the United Nations on Friday morning participated in this election at the local time in New York. Where the minimum 97 votes can be a member of the organization, Bangladesh has 178 votes.
On Friday, a total of 18 vacant seats in the different constituencies are to be held together. Of these, five members of the Asia and the Pacific are elected.
India has won the highest number of 188 votes. The rest are Bahrain, Fiji and the Philippines.
Winners will be in the election for the secret ballot from January 1 to 3 years (2019-2021).
It is to be noted that the United Nations Human Rights Council was formed in the general session of 2006 with 47 members from five regions.
Of these, 13 are from Africa region, 13 from Asia and Pacific, 6 from Eastern Europe, 8 from Latin America and the Caribbean, and 7 in Western Europe and other regions.
