Burst - Network Size (Miners, Pools and Difficulty)

in #news7 years ago

Hi Guys,

Its no surprise that this was going to happen eventually.
The network has suddenly grown exponentially in the past few weeks.

Over the past week the network size has increased sharply and hit a max of 60k yesterday.

Overall this is making it harder for every miner to get as much burst.

These graphs follow a trend with the price going up. and my recent pool traffic

Today my pool hit 550 miners which last week the number was around 450.

It was only 5 months ago when this pool began and i never expected it to reach anywhere near here

Its definitely going to get interesting from here on out

I'm curious if you think that we need more pools. Also, is having more miners in pools versus solo mining lend toward centralization? I understand that it's blockchain isn't centralized but I was curious if it becomes less decentralized this way. Thanks Lex, love what you do for the community!

the reason for pools was due to the issue where network difficulty gets so high smaller and medium size miners will find it a lot harder to hit blocks and find deadlines.

pool mining was introduced to burst at the milestone block 6000 i think meaning you could only pool mine after that block..

people say pool mining goes against centralization but thats false. the block chain is still decentralized. and all the nodes are as well. all a pool does is accept submissions from miners then forwards them to the wallet.

if the network difficulty went up double from here every miner would find it twice as hard to find decent deadlines.

Thanks for the message btw its appreciated :)

So this leads to another question then, what would be the suggested minimum size hard drive to ensure returns as a miner whether it be solo or on a pool? I've been purchasing a lot of drives but also want to be able to scale properly. Thanks Lex, you're always awesome!

it depends on the network difficulty and size. anything over 1tb i would probably recommend my pool

Thanks, what do you think about investing to gpu now? How the 1060 come in will change the game, there is saying it will go up to 30mh. I think i might be too late to invest in gpu but i am tempting. But i am not sure when eth will turn pos.

Burst is a bit different. you need hard drives to mine it.

They store the result of using the shabal algorithm 4096 times on a nonce and an account id to generate a deadline.

Its called Proof Of Capacity but i call it Proof Of Luck where by the more hard drive space you have the more lucky you are to hit decent deadlines

It then re scans the drive every block using new parameters which changes the deadline. a factor is the network difficulty.

So is it better to start plotting at a higher numbered nonce or start at zero and then plot new drives from there? Thanks Lex.

burst.lexitoshi.uk/ was my first pool to join and I'm still in it good job Lex

Nice! I have upvoted your post, can you upvote my post? Thank you

just read your recent post on fidget spinners with rockets :) good read

think you might put a limit on deadlines now?

Any requirements for your pool like a minimum amount of hd space? I have 7tb and just starting out.
