Bitcoin market capitalization: BTC breaks USD 1,000,000,000 (trillion) mark
Bitcoin breaks the barrier: With a price of 53,800 US dollars, the cryptocurrency reaches a market capitalization of over one trillion US dollars for the first time.
Today, Friday afternoon, February 19th, 2021, the time has finally come: Bitcoin market capitalization breaks the historic mark of one trillion US dollars (USD) for the first time. The market capitalization results from the current price, multiplied by the BTC amount in circulation (currently around 18,633,000 BTC).

The crypto reserve currency is no longer a small fish. With a market cap of over USD 1 trillion, BTC is now playing in the premier league of tradable assets. For comparison, with a market cap of $ 1 trillion, BTC is worth more than Facebook ($ 754 billion), Tesla ($ 757 billion), and Alibaba ($ 719 billion). In total, there are only five companies larger than Bitcoin, as can be seen in the graphic.
Bitcoin reaches the Champions League
The market capitalization of listed companies actually results from the number of outstanding shares multiplied by the share price. Since Bitcoin is not a company, the comparison lags a bit.
Even so, Bitcoin has made it into the premier league of exchange-traded assets as a trillion dollar asset. After all, as market capitalization increases, so does confidence in Bitcoin's continued existence. Large asset managers, for example, only invest in assets that are sufficiently large and have a liquid market.
