Is Jeff Bezos's wife the greatest investor of all time?
Jeff Bezos's soon to be ex wife may end up being the richest woman in the world.
In a news announcement several days ago, it was revealed that Jeff Bezos and his wife MacKenzie would be getting a divorce after 25 years of marriage.
This normally wouldn't be headline news except that currently Jeff Bezos is one of the richest people in the world (the richest depending on what day you check Amazon's stock price), with a net worth of roughly $140 billion.
This is especially interesting because Jeff and MacKenzie apparently didn't sign a prenuptial agreement some 25 years ago when they got married.
This means that MacKenzie may be entitled to half of everything Jeff owns!
Which would currently equate to roughly $70 billion.
That would mark this as the largest divorce settlement ever and make MacKenzie the richest woman in the world.
Not a bad return for 25 years!
Perhaps when people start talking about great investors, they need to mention MacKenzie...

In her defense though, it doesn't sound like this may have been her first choice.
It sounds like the split likely had to do with Jeff secretly seeing another woman on the side for the last several months, though the timing worked out pretty good for MacKenzie never the less.

Your tone is a little offensive. Not everyone is a gold-digger. And when I say everyone I mean every woman because men never get targeted with that stereotype.

Yea, the tone was mostly meant to be humorous. Divorces are anything but. There was a little blurb at the end about how he was caught cheating, which likely had to do with the divorce. Realistically thinking she planned on marrying him 25 years ago (when he wasn't extremely rich) for his money that would be there 25 years later is pretty ridiculous. Meant to be humorous and ironic only. :)
I thought the same thing at first, until I read the comment about him cheating on her. I find the tone to be a bit more humorous now. Maybe OP can chime in.
Yep, exactly. I probably should point out that she likely likely never married him for his money as he was worth much much less when they first married 25 years prior. It was just meant as a joke. :)
Charts was the first thing I noticed too. My bearish sentiment on the US market over the coming years may come true if AMZN breaks down.

interesting post @jrcornel, we must also understand what we are calling wealth is mostly in the form of stock, stock option and federal reserve notes (bank credit).
All of the above instruments have assumed value, meaning they are as valuable as what others are willing to trade for it. Should the stock market crash and there are no buyers and only seller, the value of Jeff Bezos and his wife or ex-wife would come down to fair market value, Which could be zero. True wealth is health and understanding.

Not sure if this is serious or not, but often it is pretty tough to work things out when the other person wants to sleep with someone else... It takes two to stay married.
