European Parliament recognizes Guaidó as president in charge of Venezuela

The European Parliament recognized on Thursday the president in charge of Venezuela Juan Guaidó as the de facto head of state of the South American country, in the most recent support of the international community and the bloc to maintain pressure on President Nicolás Maduro.

The MEPs voted in favor of a non-binding resolution that recognizes Guaidó as interim leader of Venezuela, while calling on all EU governments to do the same.

"Even though we are Europeans, let's make Venezuelan history today, let's recognize the democratic and legitimate power of Venezuela, let's help change the regime from Europe, because tyrants will never enlighten any democratic possibility," said Spanish center-right MEP Esteban González Pons.
