French Campaign 1940 (German name "Fall Gelb"), otherwise known as the Battle of France - German offensive to France combined with the aggression of the Third Reich to Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg in breaking the neutrality of these countries. The offensive started on May 10, 1940 at 5:35 and ended the period of a strange war on the Western Front. The Germans successfully managed to implement the blitzkrieg idea, and as a consequence France surrendered on 22 June. The campaign was a major victory of the Third Reich over France. It led to the exclusion of France (together with the colonies and the navy) - through the terms of the ceasefire - from the anti-German coalition, the temporary isolation of Great Britain on the continent and devoting France's material resources to the needs of the Third Reich's military economy.
