The blast occurred at approximately 8:45 am (03:45 GMT) as nearly 100 passengers waited on a platform for a train to Peshawar. The explosion targeted troops present at the station, according to the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), which claimed responsibility for the attack.

CCTV footage captured the moment of the blast, showing the crowded platform and the destruction caused by the explosion. The footage also revealed bloodied clothes and personal items scattered on the platform, as well as the steel structure of the platform's roof blown apart and a tea stall destroyed.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned the attack, vowing that those responsible would "pay a very heavy price" and promising to eliminate "the menace of terrorism."

The blast is the latest in a series of violent incidents in Balochistan, which has seen a surge in attacks on security forces since the beginning of 2024. The province is home to separatist armed groups, including the BLA, which has been waging an armed rebellion seeking independence from Islamabad.

Quetta Commissioner urged people to donate blood due to a shortage, and additional staff were called in to assist at the city's Civil Hospital, which was put under emergency conditions. The Chief Minister of Balochistan, Bugti, also summoned an emergency meeting to discuss the law and order situation.

Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) Convener Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui condemned the blast, expressing concern over the rising incidents of terrorism in the country.

The investigation into the blast is ongoing, with officials still collecting evidence and assessing the intensity of the explosion. The exact circumstances and motive behind the attack remain unclear, but it is evident that the people of Quetta and Pakistan are facing a grave threat from militant groups.
