Fracking is a ponzi scheme to enrich the players and rob the investors!

Great salesmanship got fracking off the ground.
Aubrey McClendon, former executive of US oil company Chesapeake Energy is credited with being the mind behind it.
He died in a dramatic car crash in 2016, shortly after being accused of conspiring with a competitor to rig bids in drilling-lease auctions.

Why are investors still providing funds for this despicable and destructive industry?

I think convincing salesmanship and the profitability of the shell game are massively significant factors but there are almost certainly others. At the most extreme end of the spectrum of theories, it's possible that there might exist a cabal of psychopaths somewhere who might actually want to make potable water scarce, in order to profit from it.
Like that Nestle guy who wants to privatise water, perhaps...
