#twowomentravel The story that will divide Ireland once and for all.

in #news8 years ago (edited)

At the age of 28 I was told, like a lot of couples, and three friends of my wife, that having children may be difficult if not impossible. My wife and I got married when I was 29 and I had just turned 30 when our first little girl was born. We now have two. Actually one of them just fell out of bed as I write this and I gave her a little kiss and said "Do you Know what? this is for you".

Myself and my wife are now looking to foster a child, maybe two, and give another couple a chance to straighten their situation out. But that's just us. We're not flush, we're not spongers we're just in a place where we might be able to help.

When you can't have something, you want it even more. When you are given something you didn't ask for, and don't want it , its different.

It's like when your 11 and you ask your parents for an iPhone and they say NO.. You want it even more. We all have things in our lives like this. Cars, handbags, watches, dresses, diamonds and Children. Like that we all were given things where we had no choice in what we received. An android instead of and apple, a fake handbag instead of a MK and an " I'm pregnant but i don't want a baby".. Now where does the choice lay?

I went to collage, back in 1996 , and worked in a place where I was introduced to a young couple at 17 made up a story to their parents and went to the UK for an abortion, regretted it they went on to have more children. I also met a woman that had an abortion at a young age and went on , with the regrets, to have more children. Later this lady was killed in a car accident and then there were millions of regrets.

My grievance is, what are the #twowomentravel for , there is no back story. I can't imagine the woman in question was in any danger from having a child. I also don't see that she was raped and would not like to bear the child of her rapist. So what was it? There have been cases, that i know of, that have challenged the 8th amendment and failed o the grounds that the judgement was sticking to the amendment and not the individual case. This seems to be not up there.

I am all on for finding a resolution to this but on grounds of rape or medical condition not the story of "the old woman who lived in a shoe with the daughter that couldn't keep her knickers on, does not in my view, warrant an abortion. Your actions have conciseness. Don't blame the law if you can't prevent the outcome of your actions.

There hopefully will be a resolution to this and we see the real need for abortion not the casual need.
