The student invented decaying in the natural way of a bottle from seaweed

Ecologically safe alternative to plastic bottles which don't decay and pollute environment, the student of the Icelandic academy of arts Arie Jonson (Ari Jónsson) offered. It presented a ready prototype of capacity from the processed seaweed.


As soon as liquid in such bottle reaches a limit, it begins to decay quickly, without doing harm to environment. On assurances of the developer, such bottle can even be eaten. However, it has specific taste which it described as seaweed jelly.


The basis of such organic bottle is made by an agar-agar - it is mix of complex polysaccharides which receive from red and brown seaweed, a lot of meeting in the ocean. It is rather dense weight. The agar-agar is widely used in the food industry, and also as a firm nutrient medium for cultivation of microorganisms. The food additive of E406 is harmless is a part of many grades of fruit jelly and a zephyr, fruit candy and souffle, jams and ice cream.


As envisioned by Arie Jonson, mixing powder of a dry preparation with water, it is possible to receive dense, jellylike substance ​​ the necessary form. However, it is insufficiently steady in itself, and keeps a form while she is supported by the filled liquid. As soon as the bottle becomes empty, it quickly is deformed, decreases in sizes and quickly – in weeks and months – decays under natural conditions.


Water in such bottle allegedly safe, according to the author, only has a little bit saltish smack from seaweed. But even Jonson recognizes that an agar-agar, perhaps, not ideal material for future bottles.
