UK boy wanted for eating a bus seat

in #news2 years ago

I do get a kick out of weird crimes that happen all over the world but I have to say that this one is a first for me. Normally I would expect this sort of behavior out of the meth-addled population of Florida but this story comes from the other side of the pond and I don't know what is funnier: The fact that the teen actually did this or that they are writing serious police press-releases asking for the public's help in locating the boy.

The fact that the person in question looks like a young Simon Cowell just makes for more adventurous reading.

Travel on public transport can suck, I'll admit this much from my own life experience. I don't think I have ever reached the point of intense boredom where it would have ever seemed like a good idea to much on he seat in front of me.

The story said something along the lines that the teen can be seen with a bottle of "fizzy drink" - which is a new term for me - and using his teeth to create a hole in the leather seat in front of him. He then proceeded to use his hands to remove larger pieces of the seat and then put them in his mouth. It is unclear (as if it would matter) whether or not the teen actually consumed the seat, but he did cause 200 pounds worth of damage in the process.

The really humorous thing about this is that the media, including a major outlet called The Guardian made this national news and was pleading with the public in assisting in locating the guy. For me, and especially if this is not a trolling piece, I think it would be easier to just use the insurance money and repair the seat rather than spend police resources on locating the guy. But government around the world isn't exactly known for their prudence I guess.

The article went on to state, and it appears though it is mean unironically, that passengers are required "to refrain from eating or drinking items that make the environment uncomfortable for other passengers, but does not address the question of eating bits of the bus itself." Well I suppose it has to be allowed then because why wouldn't someone eat a leather seat?

If you want to look at the sort of article that failing news outlets like The Guardian consider to be newsworthy, you can read it in all its glory at the original source. Personally, I hope the kid gets away with it even though he is clearly a bit nuts.
