Judge Rules Red Light Cameras Violate State Law
Drivers in South Florida might soon have the opportunity to see their red light camera tickets dismissed because a judge there has recently ruled that red light cameras violate state law.
There is a lack of uniformity when it comes to those red light cameras dispersing their tickets for violations and because of this a judge in Miami has ruled that it violates state law. The judge ruled that cities within the region are supposed to determine clear rules surrounding the use of those red light cameras before any violations can be enforced.
Eventually, this might mean that thousands of citations could be dismissed. The legal fight could still go on for years however, with the potential of ending up at the Supreme Court, which wouldn't be the first time they've tackled the issue of traffic cameras.
Until the issue is resolved, law enforcement are still expected to be issuing citations for red-light violations.
As of right now, the ruling reportedly is placing tickets in various regions on hold until there is a ruling from a higher court. These areas include places such as Florida City, Miami Springs, Miami Gardens, West Miami, and other areas.
In recent years, there has been growing criticism toward traffic cameras, coupled with studies from researchers who claim that these cameras might make the streets less safe, asserting that they're little more than a cash-grab mechanism for the state.
At least 7 different states have sought bans on traffic cameras in recent years,..
Earlier this year, the Miami Mayor had announced that red light cameras were coming to an end in the area, that the tickets from those cameras would no longer be issued in the Miami region. The Florida Supreme Court previously ruled this year that red light cameras are able to remain on the streets however, yet there are a growing number of regions that reportedly aren't interested in using them.
Government officials have denied the accusations that these traffic cameras are just an easy cash grab for them. Still, they are helping to bring in billions of dollars to the state, all while they might be making things less safe and could be fueling more danger.

That eye in the sky can shove it! Haven't seen too many out here in my area yet but they are beginning to make their ways out.

They have those stupid cameras here in San Antonio Texas in a Municipality called Balcones Heights. This part of town has been one big speed trap since we moved here in 1966. They just found an easier way to steal money. I never drive over there anymore. They can kiss my asp.
