CNN Blackmails and Threatens to Dox a 15 Year Old Reddit User
CNN Blackmails and Threatens to Dox a Reddit User
Reddit User Posts Meme
This majorly triggered CNN, which then went out on a witch hunt (which is classed as stalking, cyber-stalking, and possibly harassment). They discovered various personal details about the Reddit user, and then proceeded to contact him.
After being scared out of his wits because some big news agency was threatening to reveal his personal details in order to incite repercussions (possibly violence, public shaming, stalking, cyberbullying, etc) against this person, he apologized profusely. CNN then published this statement:
After posting his apology, "HanA holeSolo" called CNN's KFile and confirmed his identity. In the interview, "HanAholeSolo" sounded nervous about his identity being revealed and asked to not be named out of fear for his personal safety and for the public embarrassment it would bring to him and his family.
CNN is not publishing "HanAholeSolo's" name because he is a private citizen who has issued an extensive statement of apology, showed his remorse by saying he has taken down all his offending posts, and because he said he is not going to repeat this ugly behavior on social media again. In addition, he said his statement could serve as an example to others not to do the same.
CNN reserves the right to publish his identity should any of that change.
So CNN reserves the right to break the law, eh? What if I reserve the right to murder someone? Same thing in terms of breaking the law.
What CNN is doing violates the terms of service of nearly every single website in the world. It also falls under various criminal laws, such as stalking, cyber-stalking, harassment, threats, coercion, doxxing, and various other similar laws. It is also one of the most unethical things you can ever do on the Internet. And they're blackmailing him by holding his personal information hostage, because if they release it CNN will cause major repercussions to come upon this person. CNN has really gone mad with this one.
All of this is extremely illegal as well as very unethical. No self-respecting person or entity will ever do this in fear of the law, but CNN just flaunts it. And to a poor 15 year old kid who just made a meme, of which the internet is rife? They disgust me.
Here's an archive of their article.
EDIT: Julian Assange has also posted on his Twitter the exact laws CNN have broken:
CNN also appears to have committed a federal felony violation of 18 U.S. Code § 241 in relation to the 1st Amendment https://www.justice.gov/crt/conspiracy-against-rights (https://twitter.com/JulianAssange/status/882480814499536897)
CNN just committed a crime violating § 135.60 of the New York criminal code "coercion" http://codes.findlaw.com/ny/penal-law/pen-sect-135-60.html (https://twitter.com/JulianAssange/status/882430554544713728)
Can we make more memes about them?
There's already one on the front page of reddit.
