Witcher 4 is happening!
As we’ve been reporting since 2017, latest in Witcher 4 news is the series will continue. This news was confirmed by the CEO of CD Projekt Red and great news after the end of Witcher 3 trilogy. There are many questions about Witcher 4. Such as if players will see a new protagonist take the spotlight. CEO Martin Iwinksi told Game Informer

“it will be unfair to the fans of the series to discontinue making new Witcher games”
“We definitely are not annualizing a franchise or anything–it’s about the experience…The world of The Witcher is gigantic and it’s great to tell these stories,”

Those that have completed Witcher 3 Wild Hunt. Know that it’s sadly the end of Geralt’s Story. Fortunately though, CD Projekt Red has confirmed that it will not be the end of the franchise. CEO of CD Projekt Red Adam Kicinski said that Witcher 4 is confirmed and will be coming in the future!

“It’s too early to talk about it, but it’s not like we’re forgetting about this brand,” he said on Polish TV station TVN24 BiS. “It wouldn’t be fair towards the fans. We work within this universe for over a dozen years now and I don’t think it’s going to be the end of it.”

CD Projekt Red – Future plans with Witcher 4 and Cyberpunk 2077
CD Projekt Red successfully released the final expansion for Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Blood, and Wine in May 2016. Witcher 3 and its expansions have gone on to win a load of awards. Including multiple Game of the Year awards. They’re also working on another action-RPG game named Cyberpunk 2077. which sadly we will not see until after 2018. Interestingly, CD Projekt Red is currently recruiting. More than likely for Cyberpunk 2077’s development team. Including quest designers and programmers. So, while we may have to wait awhile for details on Cyberpunk 2077. hopefully, more details on Witcher 4 will surface.

Cyberpunk 2077’s development team has been in action since The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt was still in development. Though now Cyberpunk 2077 is the main focus of CD Projekt Red. That doesn’t snuff our hope for Witcher 4. The studio’s long-term aim is to have four teams working on games. So there’s definitely room for Witcher 4. Further, they mentioned plans for a new type of video game format. In which the studio hasn’t explored before.

Geralt’s voice actor wants Witcher 4 to be about Ciri
Recently, Gamereactor sat down and interviewed Doug Cockle. The voice actor of the beloved Geralt in The Witcher. Sharing that if he were to decide where The Witcher series would go next. The Witcher 4 should be focusing on Ciri. In The Wild Hunt, Ciri hints at visiting other worlds. Including CD Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk 2077.

Witcher 4 won’t see Geralt return?
Unfortunately, seeing Geralt as the main character in Witcher 4 is unlikely. If they do create another game in the Witcher universe. Geralt may return, but as the retired winemaker that he is now. But confirmed not as the protagonist. Good news though, we’ll definitely see Geralt on the big screen. Netflix is working on a Witcher tv series.

We can at least hope that without a 2017 release of Cyberpunk 2077 we’ll get an announcement for Witcher 4. Details are limited at the moment. But it’s safe to say that the next Witcher will be one hell of a game! What do you think the next Witcher story will be like without Geralt. Do you think Triss, Ciri, or Yennefer will be back in Witcher 4?
