Ferrari plans to develop an Electric Supercar
Ferrari wants to be the first to launch an electric supercar and to offer the fastest SUV on the market.
The executive director of the company - Marcioni also confirmed the company will launch an SUV (Sport utility vehicle ) model.
"If an electric supercar is to be created, the first will be Ferrari, people are amazed at what Tesla did, and I'm not trying to overcome what he achieved, but I think we can do it too" Marcinion told reporters.
Just a few years ago, Ferrari's leadership was firmly opposed to electric cars. The company had said it did not believe in them and would only offer hybrid models. And now the position of the company is not much different. "We do it because we have to," says Marcioni.
According to him, the industry is now ripe for a change. He predicts that by 2025 less than half of the cars sold will have traditional engines that will yield to hybrids and electric models, and why not to those with fuel cells. According to Marcioni, car companies have less than a decade to rediscover and survive in the new technology world.
The company has so far set a limit to produce 10,000 cars per year. Now, however, it is about to abandon it and start producing even more cars. It also includes new models such as SUV, for which Marcioni promises to be the fastest on the market and to be presented at the end of 2019 or 2020. The new models will also have to meet Ferrari's new goal - doubling the operating profit to EUR 2 billion by 2022
