Protest: Muslims in Asia drops Trump effigy condemn his Jerusalem decision

Following President Donald Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as the capital Israel, several thousands of Muslims in Indonesia and Malaysia have trooped out on Friday, December 8 to rally against Trump’s decision.
Protest in malaysia
Protesters, gathered in front of the American embassy in the Malaysian capital of Kuala Lumpur, were seen burning an effigy of Trump while they shouted anti-U.S. slogans, Reuters reports.
Earlier on Thursday, December 7, Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak called on Muslims worldwide to strongly oppose any recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.
Leaders from the ruling party United Malay National Organisation and the right-wing Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party led several thousands of people on Friday to protest Trump’s decision.
The minister for youth and sports, Khairy Jamaluddin said: “Mr President, this is an illegal announcement. Jerusalem is an occupied territory.”
Protest in Pakistan
Jamaat-e-Islami, Pakistan’s major Islamist party, is also reportedly set to stage protests across all major cities Friday prayers.
Protest in Indonesia
President Joko Widodo of Indonesia, on Thursday, December 7 urged the United States (US) to reconsider its decision on Jerusalem. He also told his foreign minister to summon the US ambassador for an explanation.
Protesters in Indonesia were seen demonstrating outside the US embassy in Jakarta, capital of the world’s biggest Muslim-majority country.
One of the protesters said: “We’re standing here in the name of justice and humanity. We’ve gathered to defend our Palestinian brothers and sisters.”
Another protester, Yuddy Kurniawan, 30, said he was not satisfied with his government’s response to the US decision.
Protest in Kashmir
Muslim Kashmiris have also staged protests in the main city of Srinagar and other parts of Indian-controlled Kashmir.
The protesters were chanting slogans “Down with America” and “Down with Israel” and burned U.S. and Israeli flags, Dailymail reports.
The authorities imposed a curfew in old parts of Srinagar and disallowed Friday prayers at the city's main mosque to ensure that the protests do not lead to violent anti-India rallies.
Kashmiri leaders described Trump's move 'anti-Muslim.'
Kurniawan, one of the protesters, advised President Widodo to call for a boycott of all American products.
Protests have also erupted in the West Bank and the Gaza strip as the Islamist group Hamas urged Palestinians to launch a fresh uprising against Israel.
Meanwhile, the US embassy in Jakarta advised its citizens to avoid demonstrations and said its consulate in Indonesia’s city of Surabaya had suspended public services on Friday.
President Trump announced that Jerusalem would now be recognized as the capital of Israel by the United States of America, BBC reports.
Trump announced the decision in a speech at the White House on Wednesday, December 6.
