Apparently Genie Bouchard Still Hangs Out With Her #superbowltwitterdate
As you may recall, Canadian tennis player Genie Bouchard made headlines during last February’s Super Bowl after she accepted a bet from a Twitter follower. Bouchard tweeted during the Super Bowl that she was certain the Falcons would win. The follower, John Goehrke, responded with a bet: If the Patriots pulled it out, he and Genie would go on a date. Bouchard played along and responded with a simple “Sure.” Of course we all know what happened after that. The Falcons lost in epic fashion, blowing a 25 point lead resulting in yet another Patriots Super Bowl title. And, lo and behold, Bouchard held true to her word and flew Goehrke to New York to take in a Brooklyn Nets game against the Milwaukee Bucks. Bouchard said she had a good time and would see him again. And then, seemingly, that was that.
Fast forward a few months and out of nowhere Bouchard posts this pic on Twitter
So it’s all a little unclear what the exact situation is with these two. That second post would make it seem like they’re a couple, or at least more than friends. But if you follow Bouchard on Twitter or Instagram, you know she has a light-hearted, fun-loving side to her. It could just be her being goofy.
A popular thought going around the internet is that this is simply a publicity stunt. It very well could be, but I don’t think that’s all it is. I think two people met. they hit it off, and they want to see more of each other. She’s a professional tennis player so she’s always traveling all around the world. It’s not out of the question that this was the first time they were able to get together since February. And for Bouchard, getting in the headlines with some positive press is only a good thing.
And from Goehrke’s standpoint? The guy’s in a no-lose situation. Either he’s A) Friends with a gorgeous, internationally known professional athlete or B) Dating a gorgeous, internationally known professional athlete. Either way he comes out smelling like roses.
It will be interesting to see if anything more comes from this and if so, if their next meet-up is again almost another full year later. Whatever it may be, keeping shooting your shot, John. You’re an inspiration to Joe Everyman everywhere.
