Malaysia Ready to Decide All Connections with North Korea

KUALA LUMPUR - Malaysia is reviewing its relationship with North Korea (North Korea) and is ready to break all connections with the country. The move is fueled by growing international concern over Pyongyang's ballistic missile tests and nuclear weapons.

Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak said Malaysia had also considered closing its embassy in Pyongyang, North Korea and transferring its services to the Malaysian embassy in Beijing, China.

"Malaysia has taken steps to comply with all United Nations resolutions relating to North Korea's threat, including repatriating North Korean diplomats in Malaysia, and we are reviewing our relationship with North Korea including diplomatic, political and economic ties," he said. Najib.

"Malaysia is also considering closing our embassy in Pyongyang and transferring it to Beijing, and now we have introduced a visa for the entry of North Koreans to Malaysia," he said in the Malaysian parliament yesterday.

Earlier, Foreign Minister Anifah Aman said that Malaysia had no plans to send an ambassador to Pyongyang again, after the latter was withdrawn earlier this year.

The two countries were involved in a diplomatic row over the investigation of the death of Kim Jong Nam, North Korean half brother Kim Jong-un, who was killed at Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 on February 13. []
