Battled 110 US Cs Missiles, Syrian Army Undaunted
DAMASCUS - Military President Bashar al-Assad asserts that his troops are undaunted even though several Syrian sites have been attacked by about 110 cruise missiles by the United States (US), Britain and France.
The Syrian army swears the Western attack will not extinguish its determination to continue the war against the remaining armed militants. Assad military statement was delivered on Saturday (14/4/2018) on local government television.
The US and its allies attacked the Syrian military position before dawn on the pretext of a response to a poison gas attack in Douma last week. The attacks reportedly killed dozens of people were blamed on President Assad's regime.
Assad's military said about 110 missiles hit targets in Syria's capital, Damascus and other regions. Many missiles were shot down by Soviet-made air defense systems.
"Such attacks will not prevent our armed forces and allied forces from defending to destroy what remains of armed terrorist groups," Assad's military statement said.
Damascus with its key allies; Russia and Iran, have criticized reports of alleged chemical attacks on Douma as false reports. The Syrian government accused Washington of using it as a pretext to attack Assad's government.
The Syrian Foreign Ministry said the US-led attack would only lead to an inflamed tension in the world and threaten international security.
"The savage aggression ... will not affect in any way the determination and insistence of the Syrian people and its heroic armed forces." Syrian state media quoted the ministry as saying.
